Would anyone here want to see a RPGs speciality topic board here? Post tips, advice, polls and the such for old-school, and newer RPGs from Final Fantasy to Phantasy Star to Kingdom Hearts?

Why not just say Non-3D RPGs?

Classic RPGs actually has a better ring to it though.

Why not just RPG's in general. I mean, you DO have topics within forums--so someone could post something about Final Fantasy X and then 5 minutes later post about Final Fantasy 1. They do something similar in the SHUMP forum. . .

Actually RPGs in general was my original idea. I'd actually love to see a forum here on RPGs, seieng they're one my top genres which I play the most often.

Does anyone know of any games that cross a shmup with an RPG?

The only one I can think of that comes close is The Guardian Legend.

Please, no. No more forums, that is. All this fragmentation already is hard enough to keep up with!

Well, there's Veldeselba Senki, a Japan-only PlayStation game from 1997. It mixes 2-D overhead RPG scenes with 3-D airplane battles similar to the Panzer Dragoon series.

Squaresoft's Treasure Conflix, released on the Super Famicom Satelliteview service in 1996, also comes to mind, as it supposedly features Mode-7 shooting sequences for a battle system. I can't confirm that, however, because I've never been able to play much of the game due to its unreliable emulation.
