I'm using the Nyko GameCube/Advance cable. No luck at all in getting my E-Reader to connect. Am I just doing something dumb? I tried connecting it with both systems off, then on, the one off one on, etc etc. Just can't seem to get the ETM to recognize that my GBA is in port 2 (also tried port 4)...
Anyone? Anyone?

I had some problems the first time I tried to do this as well. I remember it being fickle. If I remember correctly, you have to turn on the GBA when it is plugged in with the E-Reader and then you have to go to the "ATM" type machine and upload software to your E-Reader and then you can scan cards. If the link fails you have to start all over. I think I mucked with it for about 30 Minuets before I figured out the exact process. I will link up tonite and write down the steps that I took. I can't remember exactly what I did.

I bought an off brand link cable also (don't remember which one) when I forgot mine at my parents house. It was a GBA/GCN and GBA/GBA link in one. There was a switch that I had to move on it so it would connect the GBA to the GCN. Make sure you don't have that problem
I don't think it matters what order you turn on your systems, but here is the order that I did everything in:
1. Turn on GCN w/Animal Crossing. Load character go to ETM
2. Turn on GBA and select COMMUNICATION
3. On the GBA select TO NINTENDO GAMECUBE
4. Connect GBA to GCN with link cable (I used port 2 on the GCN)
5. On the GCN ETM scroll through the screens and select PREP E-READER (this downloads the card reading program to the E-Reader)
6. Both the GBA and GCN will ask you to press the A button when they are connected.
7. Press the A button on the GBA first
8. Press the A button on the GCN second
If you reverse steps 7 and 8, it WILL NOT work.
It should say 'NOW DOWNLOADING' on both your GBA and GCN. After about a minute the GBA will 'Save' and a gyroid will appear on your GBA screen. The GCN will ask you if you want to scan a card. You can just go from there. I think you have to do this everytime you shut off your GBA and turn it on later. But don't quote me on that.
P.S. You DO NOT have to do this process when you want to go to the island.

No you don't have to do it each time. The AC software remains in the e-Reader memory (like the last NES game you scanned in would) until it is replaced...

Thank you, I'll try that sequence out, Achika. Mine is just for GC to GBA, no switches on the cable at all. It's the "cheap" version of the cable :o

Blarsted thing! Still not working.
How long is the "transferring" message supposed to appear when the connection to the GameCube is being established? I'm getting locked up at that point, it seems.
Maybe I should just get the Nintendo one. What's everyone else using?

I was using Mad Catz, but I passed that to my bf as soon as I went to my parents house and got my Nintendo brand one. Both worked out for me.
The transmitting message should last about 1-2 minutes. All of a sudden you'll hear 'saving' from your GBA.

transferring the actual ereader application to your gba takes just over a minute to do. once that's done you can save the application onto the eReader so you don't have to do that again. speaking of which the Animal Crossing cards came out today!
