Shikigami no Shiro 2 just came out for the Dreamcast in Japan and is available at most of your better online import retailers. I recommend NCSX myself.

It seems to be a decent vertical shooter with 3-D backgrounds but 2-D gameplay. I'll let you know as soon as mine arrives. Soon, I hope.

Evidently, this game came out in Japan already on the Gamecube and PS2, but is now on the Dreamcast. This is a good thing, as the arcade original ran off Naomi/Dreamcast hardware so this port should be the best of all of them.

Anyone know if this is the same game as Mobile Light Force 2 on the PS2? I know the original Mobile Light Force on the PSone was a port of the Japanese game Gunbird, but I'm a bit confused on this one.

Mobile Light Force (PS1) = Gunbird 1
Mobile Light Force 2 (PS2) = Shikigami no Shiro 1

I came up with these after a brief search... they all seem to be shots of the same level with different weapons and effects. I haven't found any info on comparisons... there me be one on the arcade vs. GC vs. PS@, but I hear the DC game has some extra things in it but it's too new for reviews yet.

It definitely will not be the last Dreamcast 2D shooter published.

I can personally guarantee that :D

sounds good, and there might be another dc game "soon", a french dev is working on a new naomi title (damn i can't remember the name) looks a bit like a Panzer Dragoon with Mechs, and they said if they can get a Dreamcast SDK anywhere (which shouldn't be a big problem, i know of several people who have one) they would be willing to release it on dreamcast :)

I'm confused. :)

Is Mobile Light Force 2 on the PS2 eqivalent to Gunbird 2 on the Dreamcast?...and was the PS2 Mobile Light Force 2 a Japanese only release?

As mentioned earlier by someone Mobile Light Force 2 for the Playstation 2 is Shikigami no Shiro part 1. Which was also released on the Xbox. There are actually three incarnations on the Xbox. Original, and two Evolution varaints.

Shikigami no Shiro part 2 is being released for the Xbox in Japan in April. The print-run is going to be very limited. I have mine pre-ordered with www.playasia.com

Well, I can personally guarantee that there will be two releases by the end of May, as well as a host of surprises that are currently in development. These releases won't be the shooter though, but hopefully it will be at the launch party, ready to be played :D

Thanks, guys for bringing this topic up and clarify Qs. I had no idea that Mobile Light Force 1 (PS1) is actually the first Gunbird (I have Gunbird 2 for the DC), and that Mobile Light Force 2 (PS2) is Shikigami no Shiro. I purchased Mobile Light Force 1 very cheap from ebay, and my local Gamestop had a new Mobile Light Force 2 for $8.

I completely overlooked these games, another incident where reading the DP site paid off.

Nothing says more old gaming than playing a traditional 2D shooter. I'm just a sucker for Gradius 3 or the new R-Type Final, ever since I played Life Force.

BTW, did you hear of any plans if Shikigami no Shiro 2 will be released in the US for the XBox??

That whole Mobile Light Force shit is the reason why you buy the imports when it comes out. To further confuse everyone, Gunbird 1 & 2 was just released for the PS2. I wonder if they'll release it in the US as Mobile Light Force 1 and Gunbird 2. :)

There are actually 3 Shikigami no Shiro games on the X-box ( at least in Japan). Shikigami no Shiro, then SnS Blue and SnS Red. I have no clue what the BLue and Red ones are... just seen them in the store.
