Okay I am trying to figure out a game from my youth and I'm hoping you guys can help. Around 1986-1988 there was a fairly popular wrestling game out. I used to play it at the local pizza joint and at Disneyland Tomorow Arcade (I was an employee). It had no official endorsements so it wasn't a WWF product. It had fictional characters and a simple moves list. I am pretty sure it was a Japanese product and styled after Japanese wrestling. The only characters I can remember was a masked wrestler, a Hulk Hogan cloan, and an African-? character (Very non PC), I THINK there was a Russian wrestler too. The games strongest move was a dash then shoulder attack. Anyway I would like to play this on MAME but I can't remember the name.

Insane Warrior, Karate Fighter, Cocoa Savage, The Pirania and Golden Hulk, perhaps?

Yeah, it's Mat Mania.

I grew up playing this game as well. It was one of the games our local corner convenient store owned, and therefore we (the neighborhood kids) played it to death and got to where we could "beat" it over and over on a single quarter (you can't really beat it -- the wrestlers just wrap around).

When I first began collecting arcade games, I made a list of the top 10 games I was looking for. Mat Mania was on that list. At the first auction I went to, I found one. It was missing the bezel but otherwise looked and played great. I was so excited to find one so quickly!

When we got to that game, the auctioneer started the bidding at $500. My heart sank, but then, there were no bids. He dropped the opening bid to $400 ... still no bids. He got down to $100 ... no bids. Finally he said, "where are we going to start it out at? $25?" When he said that, I raised my bidder's card. "Sold to the man in the front row before he changes his mind!"

My dad was standing behind me and hadn't seen me raise my card. He leaned over and whispered, "didn't you want that game? Someone just got it for $25!" I turned around and said, "I know, it was ME!" :)

Nobody can beat me at Mat Mania Challenge (the two-player version of Mat Mania). Back in high school I once beat seven guys in a row, and the last guy was so pissed he shoved the machine and managed to unplug it from the wall. The owner kicked us all out. LOL

Ahhh thank you all :D

Once again this forum hits a home run!

Yes I loved this game too! Once I mastered the shoulder attack I could play this game forever.

Nope that's completely legit. I also thought ZZTop was in the crowd, but I didn't see that on his list.
