View Full Version : MY XBOX IS OVERHEATED! HELP ME
I am so pissed off. I play my Xbox. Not everyday. Not every week. I do play it though. My Xbox, which is less then 2 years old, is damaged according to an xbox rep. What should i do? I waited over 2 hours for it to cool down and that has done nothing. As of now my choices are:
A) send it into microsoft and for $91 they can fix it and insure it for one year,
B) buy a new one for the rumored $149 bucks on tuesday,
C) Wait a few more days and pray it works.
At first I was all for a new one. Why risk that shit again? Get a new Xbox and start over. That's the thing though, I would have to start the fuck over. I would lose my records for every fucking game I own. I really don't want to do that. I am really pissed. I keep my equipment in top shape. I have never had a problem with any of my hardware EVER. I own over 30 systems from various eras. Has anyone else had this problem or know anyone that has? Thanks to all

correct me if i'm wrong... but wouldn't it be relatively easy to swap your hard drive from your now broken unit into a new one? thereby not losing all your precious saves....
It's possible. What if my HD is the source of the problem and i wreck another system. It's a long shot, but what if? Thanks for the suggestion

Personally, I'd wait for the price drop to pick another one up, and then I'd probably find a local game shop with a shadetree mechanic and get him to swap out the HD's. As an alternate, you could call up one of these places to begin with and see what they say, my friend did this and got his Xbox back within a week and it was fixed for far less than MS would have charged. Just a thought.

Do you not own a PS2 then?
I'd suggest trying it tomorrow and if it doesn't work then wait for a good deal to come along. Depends on how long you can wait to use an Xbox.
I have owned a Playstation and I own a PS2. No problems with em. I can wait a couple days with the Xbox if it would be able to fix the problem.

Ah. That explains it. By having a PS2 that works fine, the balance of nature has been set off, so to make up for it, your Xbox died.

HD's are NOT swappable. To swap a HD, you have to mod the unit, and lock an unlocked HD to the motherboard. Then it can be unmodded.
Overheating is easy to fix, IF that is what the problem is. You can double the power to the exhaust fan, but putting a power supply pass thru patch into the HD power supply, and plugging the exhaust fan into that.
Overheating Xboxes is rare as hell though. Usually it's DVDrom fialure, then mobo failure, then HD failure. Overheating is a distant fourth to those issues.

Sorry to hear that..
I'd say wait to the price drop and pick up a new one..
I wonder what they give in trade in for these now....
I bet it's more then it will be when the price drops.
I have two XBox Systems that I bought on launch..(at the high price then)..
The second one I keep away in it's box and only use it for Link-Up ..and that's not been much.
The Xbox I have out that I constantly use Overheats once in awhile giving me either a black screen or freezes while in a game..and I flip it off quick..
This would happen a lot when I was playing Pirates Of the Caribbean awhile back..then I put a small electric fan blowing into the side of the xbox and it stopped overheating...
No other game would overheat the XBox,no matter if I had the Fan on or off,and nothing overheated the system after I stopped playing Pirates Of the Caribbean (Months go by)"UNTIL I started playing MAFIA....though it hasn't happened again it overheated giving me a black screen while in game last night...
I used the fan for one of my Arcade machines but I have another that I need to set-up.
Tomorrow I'm going to hook up the fan to be safe..but,what I wonder is..Is this a System going bad since RCM's had overheated and doesn't turn on..
Would keeping it cooler with the fan prevent it from burning out..?
I don't want this launch system to burnout..If I paid $149.99 for it then I wouldn't be to pissed if it happened after all this time.
I also do not want to use the second one..So I'm trying to keep this one going for as long as I can.
