Anyone here think Square could have advoided the problems they'r ein now, considering the failures of the Final Fantasy movie and the FF11 project?

Yes they probably could have, I will be the first to admit that I enjoyed the FF Movie, I even bought the DVD  But I can understand why so many people did not like it, what would you prefer, Aki standing there confused in a bikini, or Cloud or Squall dishing out some serious ass kicking with their gunblade and bastard sword............... :P

I think it's a little early to say that FF XI failed. Sure it's off to a somewhat shaky start, but it may pickup steam. I'm still crossing my fingers for a US release (either on PS2 or PC).

The Movie was Stupid. Plain and simple. I liked it and own it, but that doesn't mean it didn't suck. I remember hearing a report on it something along the lines of

"Square has proven that computer graphics can look unbelievably realistic, down to the most minute detail, But, Computer graphics can't make the script any better"

The first time I saw aliens, ghosts, and some fututristic crap, I KNEW I was NOT going to the movie theatre to see it, and I knew it would flop, like millions of other people knew it. Why Square didn't know it? I don't know :)

The movie would have worked sooo much better if it was based in the world of Fantasy and not Sci-Fi.. It would have played right into all the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter hype..

The movie was all eye-candy I'll admit but had Square done a full cgi sequel to one their previous games or a movie remake of one their games, it could been big.

I picked up the DVD used at BB but have yet to watch it. The reason being is the movie just doesn't interest me. I keep waiting for a night to come where I'm in the mood for it...but it hasn't happened yet. As soon as I saw the trailers I was like.... This is FF??? I mean based on the trailers I've seen, That movie could have been called anything. If I had seen the trailer without sound and was asked what it was I'd be like??? Ummmmm... Ghost Asteroid? There was nothing that tied it to FF. You take away your fan base like that and how can you not expect to fail??? What sucks is thinking what that movie could have been. Ahhh well I havent seen it yet so who knows, maybe I'll like it. But then again...I like crappy movies.

Maybe Square can be hired to do the next Star Wars film...since the last one was pretty much 80% there as far as CGI goes, so why not go all the way? ;)

"Final Fantasy" it was not. Where were the black mages, white mages, fighters, and group combat?

BTW, if you want to see a *truly* good sci-fi CGI flick, go rent Titan A.E. The graphics were not as pretty, but the story was far more interesting.

Titan A.E. was an utterly mediocre film, as well as proof that no one can waste a good idea like Don Bluth.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within wasn't great, but at least it developed its concepts (if not its characters) and didn't squander an audience's time by substituting pointless music sequences for story.
