I've got Burgertime on my Colecovision. It's an ok game, kind of goofy, but I like it that way. I don't think it's the end all, be all game so I'm not really sure why it needs an 'official thread'.

I like BurgerTime!!! Haven't you guys ever read my signature that said, "Don't make me flog you with my BurgerTime manual"? :D In fact, the manual I'm referring to is the manual for the Intellivision port. Some liquid spilled over it and it became a hard flat board when it dried up.
Seriously, though, BurgerTime was the first arcade cabinet I clearly remember seeing (although I'm sure I saw Pac-Man and Space invaders and other classics before that). It was in 1983. I was in grade 2 and my class had gone to the rollerskating rink. I just remember being fascinated with it.
I now have the Intellivision, the ColecoVision and the NES ports of the game. Plus the MAME version, of course. I also have a copy of Diner for the Intv (now, that's a game that oughta be re-released...). BTW, does someone know who really has the rights to Diner? Is it Intellivision Productions inc. (the Blue Sky Rangers, as the game was an INTV original) or is it Data East (since the game was made under license)?

Burgertime is a great game.. although my major gripe with the game is the controls, and how Peter Pepper can sometimes get stuck on the ladders. It's a little frustrating at times. But, the game is still obviously a classic, and one of those games that I could just play/watch for hours in the arcades.
Of course, there already was a sort of sequel in Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory, and then a another update in Super Burgertime. Add in Diner for the Intellivision, and you've got four Burgertime games.

What would the Xbox, GC, PS2 updates bring? Nothing in my opinion. They would probably end up just making it look pretty. No thanks. Burgertime is fine the way it is.
Lady Jaye: No idea on the rights issue to Diner..

Love Burgertime. I consider myself quite the master of the VCS version (as terrible as it is... :hmm: ) and I really enjoy the NES port as well, but I'm not nearly as good.
The arcade is way fun and I'd be a lot better if I had regular access to the machine. :)
Classic, great game. :) :) :)

I find the NES port rather challenging. I tried practicing for the BurgerTime tournament held at PhillyClassic 3, and I quickly gave up on it.

I actually really like Super Burgertime. One of these days, I'll probably end up picking it for the MAME Club if no one else beats me to it (then again, it certainly won't be my first choice, so this'll take a while). It's completely chaotic, but there is just so much fun stuff going on that I enjoy it anyways.
I've played Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory before, but the whole 2 minute tape loading thing in the intro usually keeps me away... One of these days I'll have to wait through it and then save state or something. I don't remember the game being all that great though... somehow, it felt too complicated or something.
Anyways, back to Burgertime... which home port do you guys feel is the best? I always thought the Gameboy port was pretty good, despite being black & white.

I love the arcade game but have yet to play the nes version. Looks over at cart. Oh well maybe another day :P
Great game, but I stink at it. I *tried* to be good, seeing as burgers are one of my four basic food groups, but I panic way too easily. As someone else mentioned, it's a tad too easy to get stuck on the ladders... too much precision is needed. The NES verison is terrific, and the CV port isn't bad.

ps - ANY game can have an official thread, IMHO. :)

Don't bother with a save state on PPICF; it doesn't work. I've tried it.
What I've done to ease the wait for the virtual tape load:
Max out your frameskip, and hit F10 (proccessor acceleration) the 200 clicks go by in about 10 seconds on my P2. A faster machine could probably make it even quicker.

I have it for the NES and ColecoVision. I much prefer the ColecoVision version; it also brings back some good memories.
Along with Bump `N Jump and Illusions, it was a really good 1984 effort.

This dinky thread is what I love about DP.
OK, what is the best version. Answer is simple.
Intellivision.
Intellivision.
Intellivision.
Intellivision.
All the way. I wouldn't play it any other way, short of arcade/mame. Somehow the Inty controller works ok for it, aside from crappy side button misfires.
And dammit thanks for posting about the sequels! I'd like to see some mega boards that are like 50-100% larger. Burgertime could have been Lode Runner if there were more variety in the boards. Platform genre I guess.
And I love eating games. I mean, what tha' fu'? Eating games. When I'm not eating, I like to play games about eating. So where are all the bathroom games? I wish I could program 2600, I'd make a paddle game called 'Near Miss' about a drunkin' trip to the bathroom. Hit the poop floating across to score bonus poopy points!

I. Hate. Burgertime. If Mr. Do didn't exist, it would be my least favorite game ever, and yes, I've played Sssnake and E.T. on the 2600...
It's a neat idea, and I know I kind of liked it as a kid. But playing this game now, it's just tedious, and I get bored before I ever finish the first board. To me it's just an overly slow maze game.

lol i loved that game, the last time i played it was when i was in elementary school and i'm in college now lol hehe good times

Yep, have it and like it.
It was also released on the gameboy color with a Flintstones license slapped on, Flintstones: Burgertime in Bedrock.

I play it on Midway's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 for PS1. It's not my favorite game on the compilation, but it's probably the only version I'll ever play considering the NES version costs so much at Gamestop. Anyway, I want to try it with my new Universal Arcade Stick. It seems like Peter would be easier to control with an arcade joystick than a controller.
Funny, there's a variation of Burgertime on N'Sync: Get to the Show for Game Boy Color. There aren't any ladders; you just move the members around to stack up the right toppings. When Joey Fatone wins, he says "Tight work!" That phrase boggles the mind. O_O

A new Burger Time homebrew conversion or a long lost proto may have surfaced for the 5200 (includes playable rom):

I know this is an old thread, but you may be interested to know that I am one of two people writing new versions of BurgerTime for the Remakes.org coding competition.
My version is traditional 2D, with improved graphics and (when it's done) sound!
I am sticking to the original BurgerTime style of play (climb ladders, make burgers, avoid sausages etc.) but I'm also adding in the odd power-up or two.
The game is over 50% complete and I've created 7 brand new levels for the game so far (plan approx. 30).
The competition ends 31st September 2004, so hopefully then there will be two brand new BurgerTime games for you to enjoy.

I consider myself a decent burgertime. I own
- A boxed INTELLI version
- The arcade version (kinda beatup but plays good)
My arcade version gets tons of play, I mean TONS. Everyone that comes into the game room plays it at least once.

Only years and years later did i discover it was a arcade game LOL

I first played BurgerTime as the little LCD game too. I fell in love there and then!
I also own an Intellivision, with BurgerTime, together with it's poor sequel, Diner.
I must say though that I am not at all bothered by the arcade game Super BurgerTime. It just isn't the same...

I really love that game too, I have it on the 2600, coleco, intv, TI99, and nes, and I have to say that the INTV version is the best one out there Followed close by the TI99/4A. The latter is much better visually but the music repeats everytime you touch a burger piece, the nes one is good but doesn't have the same feel as th originals. This game was mesmerizing as a kid. I was an atari 2600 nut (that's all I had at the time) and one day we went to my uncle's house for a party and I was fascinated by the INTY that he had and we played Burgertime the whole time even my parents loved that game and couldn't get enough of it. That game left me with the fondest memories even to this day and I would not come across it again until I started collecting games. I absolutely loved that game and still love it to this day.
And those of you that haven't played the TI99 version you really need to check it out!!!!

I've recently got the Intellivision, ColecoVision and new Atari 5200 homebrew versions of this game. Lots of good old fashioned fun. The new Atari 5200 version of this game is great, but I'm incredibly impressed with the Intellivsion version. For a system that I was never impressed with when it came out (yes I'm THAT old, I was a teenager back then) I must say the Intellivision had alot more good games than I realized at the time.
