Was not the Captain looking around for a playstation-compatible shmuppable d-pad that isn't cheap crap? I'm looking for one now, too. I was using my MadCatz Dual Force to play Gradius III when the whole friggin' pad broke off of it's central mounting stalk. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that that one is cheap crap.

In the alternative, does anybody make an adapter that lets you plug a Sega controller (ANY of them) into a PSX/PS2?

Yep, it was me. The best one I found, and the one that was reccommended to me is one made by Alps. I picked it up at Meijers a long time ago for $5, but I've seen them at KB and Funco for a similar price from time to time.

It's not a "dual shock" and it doesn't have analog controllers. The shape of the controller and the buttons is a little funky, but nothing you can't get used to. The only real beef I have is the plastic used for the d-pad and buttons is a little slippy.

Still, for $5 you can't beat it.

With no Alps controllers available locally, I ended up plunking down $11 to have one mailed to me. But once I got it I can see why you like it. For those who've not seen one, it's huge and freaky in a longish way (not fat like an Xbox controller). It's kind of like a boomerang. But it's solid and feels like quality. The D-Pad on it feels like it's not going to break off, and it kept my Super Solvalou from any unexpected meetings with the Bakula reflector shields.
