The MAME Club has made me INSANE in the BRAIN!

Everyone must be MAME'ing so hard that everyone forgot to send me their requests this week! I kept jumping down the list until I got someone to answer me. The first person to answer my cries was BHvrd, and BHvrd says ...

NARC is the MAME Club pick of the week!
Download ROM HERE (http://www.videogamearchive.com/emu/mame/narc.zip) (~25k)

Next week is second chance week -- I'll go through ROM requests from Verpertillio, Ghsqb, TheSmirk, and Flukkake in that order (if I hear from them). If I don't hear anything from them we'll jump ahead to ManekiNeko's choice. I'll try and do a better job of e-mailing out reminders earlier in the week.

Now, MAME On!

Well this will be my first MAME Review...sorry in advance LOL

Ahhhh Friday Night, 7-11, a roll of quarters, A Slushee and NARC. Brings back memories. Extreme back in the day for its over the top violence. Game was good but it was a quarter eater. Pretty much hack and slash. I always found it curious that you could burn, blowup, and gundown the humans but shots at the dogs turned them into puppies O_O

Ahem... my opinion of this game can be summed up the easiest way like this:

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRC!!!!!

That is to say, it F**KING ROCKS. That's all I've got to say. :D

(The NES version is kinda lax, though...)

Computer.....can't handle.....someone.....help!

I'm getting 5 frames on a PIII. It seems I have this trouble with all Midway games of the era. MK's, Judge Dredd, etc. Can't seem to figure out why.

One of the best games ever.

It has everything: fast, frenetic, tough-but-fair gameplay; excellent graphics and sound; well thought out stages, outstanding characters, and exploding criminals.

"You're BUSTED!"

I played this one so much at the game room, I could eventually complete it on one quarter. N.A.R.C. friggin' ROCKS.

SPOILER ALERT@!!!!

game's a freaking rip off I beat it and contacted my DEA recruitment office and they looked at me funny...worst 100 dollars I've spent.

END SPOILER\1
but I'm waiting to see how the remake turns out...

I think that the game is great. And it definitely was impressive to see in the arcades when I was young... flaming limbs, shooting prostitutes, psycho clowns weren't in most videogames at the time. But, violence and graphics aside, it's still a damn good game. I do feel that it drags on a bit, and the later characters are nowhere near as interesting as the early ones. The last boss was a bit of a disappointment too.

I believe that the best ports I played were on the Amiga / Atari ST.

Looks like I'll have to bow out this week too... my poor old computer just can't keep up with this one. I've played it in the arcade a number of times though, and it's a great game.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of havoc comes about when the remake is released... Midway claims you'll be able to use the drugs you confiscate for short-term benefit (faster movement, distorting to make them more easily recognizable and so on) despite long-term side effects (the shakes). Assuming they actually include this in the final game, and assuming parents continue the trend of completely ignoring the ESRB ratings, we might have another Night Trap on our hands.

I agree with the lot of you, NARC is cool. So far I haven't playind it in the arcades, only on MAME, but it's still fun noetheless. What I enjoy most is the concept, blowing up criminals, and picking up thier cash and crack for extra points rocks! I suppose enext time I go to the arcade I should pump some quarters into thieer NARC machine that's collecting dust, or maybe if I ofgfer them the right price I could take it home with me. Anyhoo this is a great game that sends a very true message if you're a drug dealer, expect to be mowed down by a stream bullets from the gun of a side scolling cop in riot gear. Another thing I could never figure out though is how come games like doom and MK get so much bad press, but no one really touched this one? not that I'm complaing mind you, it just seems wierd when IMO NARC is more violent than either of those games.
