View Full Version : Dream game: Nintendo vs. Sega, Smash Bros. style

This is an idea for a game I've had, an idea others have probably had as well, and an idea that may have already been posted on these boards (but if it has, I couldn't find it). The idea is this: a Smash Bros. type game, but instead of just fighters from Nintendo's major franchises, include fighters from Sega's franchises as well. I'd call it Smash This!: Nintendo vs. Sega.

Such a game is not an impossibility with Sega now releasing games for Nintendo's Gamecube and considering how much money such a game could make for both companies (I know I'd buy it). But what characters would be included in it? The Nintendo lineup can be guessed by looking at the Smash Bros. games, but is there anyone else who should be included on Nintendo's side? And who should represent Sega?

My personal bias is that the fighters should be drawn from games of the SNES and Genesis eras, as this was when Nintendo and Sega really went at it. But perhaps the hidden characters could come from other eras. The characters from the Saturn's Nights, for example, or maybe even Alex Kidd. And Pit from Kid Ikarus.

What does everyone think?

If such a game is ever made, Joe Musashi from the Shinobi series must be in it.

Sega chars? They've got a number to choose from.
JJ, Apple, & Champ from Zillion
Alex Kidd
NiGHTs
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Nack, Amy, Omega, etc. any sonic character basically
Toejam & Earl
Ulala
Fighters Megamix characters (and the recent VF additions)
Shinobi
Alis from phantasy star
Altered Beast
Ecco (no idea how that would work)
Opa-Opa
the dragon from Panzer Dragoon

I dunno, I could see sega delving back quite a ways.

If they can make the car from Daytona USA 'work' in Fighters Megamix, they can make Ecco work in a Smash Bros game LOL .

Yeah, I've been wishing for this game ever since that April Fools joke with Sonic and Tails in SSBM.

Did Fighters Megamix really have a car?

Anyway, the world does not need yet another versus game. Demand originality! Demand new characters rather than the same old pneumatic palette swaps! Demand innovative gameplay! And if you want to see Mario vs Sonic, that theme has been explored in many Flash cartoons.

Maybe that Sketch Turner fellow from Comix Zone could be in it...I think that was a Sega game....Oh, also that fool from Space Harrier, and Ryo from Shenmue

I'd like to see a hanafuda playing card as a hidden character fighting on Nintendo's side (Nintendo was founded in 1889 as a maker of hanafuda cards, as you probably all know).

I've actually thought about an idea like this before, but since Sega is multi-platform I thought it would be cool to release different versions on each of the consoles. Sega vs Nintendo, Sega vs Sony, Sega vs Microsoft(though I don't think this could work due to lack of characters for MS).

Naturally the Nintendo vs Sega title would have more memorable and meaningful fights, but it would be cool to see crossplatform games that are the same but different.

That would be so cool. Who would the Soul Caliber fighters go to?

Soul Calibur being NAMCO, I'd assume they wouldn't even be in the game.

Vectorman and Sketch Turner would rock too.

Maybe I'm still living in the 16 bit days, but if they ever get together for a game with Sonic and Mario competing, I really hope they'll make some effort to get the rights to stick Bonk into the mix. That's a three-way fight I've been wanting to see since the early nineties.

Of course, the ADD-riddled children of the 21st century probably wouldn't even recognize him :(
