The price drop isn't just in the U.S., either:

Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox videogame system will shed $30.00 from its retail price beginning tomorrow, when it goes on sale in the U.S. for $149.99.
Canadians will also see the same amount pared off the game console in their territory, with a new sticker price of $199.99 in Canada. Also, Microsoft chopped 500 pesos off the Xbox in Mexico, where it will go on sale tomorrow for 1,999 pesos (approximately $179.40 U.S.).
Microsoft also reduced the price on a variety of software titles for the Xbox, with Xbox Music Mixer available tomorrow for a new price of $19.99, Project Gotham Racing 2, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Counter Strike, all of which will debut Tuesday at $29.99, and Voodoo Vince and Grabbed by the Ghoulies, two games that can be purchased immediately for $19.99.

Aw man, you had me hoping it was at $99 :(

Well, even at this price a limited edition xBox looks more appealing to me...they're only about $100 more, and shouldn't fall in value (much).

The ones being sold on eBay, the Mountain Dew ones I mean...I've watched the Panzer Dragoon Orta xBox fall a bunch in value recently.

You and me both, brother. The only one that's actually dropped at the CC I work at is PGR2. I checked Crimson Skies and Counterstrike but both were holding on strong at $49.99 again. The usual drop day is Friday for CC's though, so we'll see. Voodoo Vince and GbtG, however, have been $19.99 for a month already.

Bah. Just get the Condition Zero maps for PC. The new cs_italy_cz map looks like ass, and though they've added some new towers and such there's no ledges on them. In fact many places in the game where you used to be able to walk on awnings and such no longer work. They've stripped away a lot of flat surfaces that used to be fun getting to with low gravity (though that's not something I messed with).

On the other hand, the new de_inferno_cz is awesome, and the completely new Japanese subway and Japanese-mansion-thingie maps are as well.

I hear the single player is incredibly lame/laughable, on the PC at least (and that's including the bots).

I really think getting this one for the xBox is a mistake.

I hate PC games. HATE them. You want to talk about death of creativity on the consoles? The PC scene has been essentially the same since 1997, when I stopped playing PC games: first person shooter (either ww2 or futuristic), strategy game, budget games (shit so vile the testers cringe) and the girlie games (tycoon, sims, etc.). That's a rant for another thread though, I suppose.

From what ive been told about the CS for the XBox by an old roommate who played CS for the PC and whatnot, and bought that one when it came out, was that the framerate was a little off, and that it just wasnt the same. That and the Single player story mode was beyond laughable. He tried to sell me his copy for 40 a while back, i laughed, cause if it ever came in used where i buy most of my stuff, then it would have been 35, and now since the pricedrop its even cheapa!!!

I just cant decide weither or not to grab Project Gotham2 as well. I wasnt a big fan of 1, but i know it will come home eventually... now before later???

Oh Dr. JustinRamone, since you work at CC, could you tell me what the employee price is on FF XI?? My Ops Manager friend got me one, and she wont tell me what she paid, so i cant pay her back for it. Keeps tellin me its some sort of present. I just want to know what she plunked down on it.

Yep. It's come down in price.

I really wish Sony would follow suit by next Monday so I can get a price adjustment before the 7-day time limit is up. I could really use that $30.

Whooo...but you have a PC, right? Just about anything can run Counter-Strike these days.

I don't see how this argument wouldn't apply to Counter-Strike on the XBox, anyhow. Counter-Strike is the epitome of the PC FPS, and it remains just that on the XBox...except the controls are worse.

Hmm. Well, it's your money.

I will say that Condition Zero is highly disappointing for anybody who's played the original mod for any amount of time. The maps have graphical glitches which won't necessarily show up on the XBox but certainly do on the PC (texture seams on walls, as I've mentioned) and they stole a bunch of the flat spots. They've also taken away a lot of the fun touches that made the original maps so great - cs_office has a breakable wall with a secret message, hillarious advertisements outside certain windows like "Adopt a Terrorist," a monitor displaying the WorldCraft editor and even an in-joke. The _cz remake has snow, and that's it. They took out all the other stuff that make the map fun...instead they've got some "motivational posters" (except if you can read the blurred text you see they're actually de-motivational posters) that show up about 3 times each. Not that interesting.

That won't have any impact if you haven't played the original. So then, what would? How about the pretty awful single player option? SP missions in Counter-Strike have always been little more than a bad joke...if you're getting CZ to play offline, you'd better try to set up some split-screen action.

The main thing to remember with CS (which I play all the time) is that the human opponents make it fun, not the level design or the bots. The updates help, too...and today a message was sent out to some board or other that they're thinking about changing the cost of weapons. I don't know if CZ on the XBox can recieve those updates with or without Live. In any case, I wonder how you can pull off a sharp turn to pull your USP around and up to eye level to kill a terrorist who's snuck up on you. The playing field is by no means level. Something to think about.

Anyhow, I hope those comments are helpful and don't make you angry -- not my intention at all!

I went to Ebay and bid on a copy of DOA3. I decided if I won it, I'd then break down and go buy an Xbox. I didn't win it :(

So I bid on another :D And that one I won... :P

I took a run over to Wal-Mart and picked up my XBox for the new price (I meant to wait for the next price reduction but who knows how long that will take?). The box I bought included the first Amped with it. I've never been a big snowboarding fan but I'll give it a shot...I won't play it until tomorrow because I'm exhausted. I just got finished working 4 doubles in a row. -_-

Oh yes, I also bought the game that all XBox owners are required by law to own, Halo... :D

I just bought my xbox new from FYE, because they had a 30 dollar mail-in rebate ON TOP of the 30 dollar price drop.

So it was only 119.99 after rebate.

And it was a samsung drive to top it off!

(If anyone has house of the dead 3, any lord of the rings, suffering, lightguns for xbox that they want to get rid of, PM me)

I suppose this deal means that there'll be a huge spike in XBox game sales.

Interesting note...I saw the Christmas edition of Outlaw Golf at EB Games today (used, I'm sure) for about $13...I remember it was being sold at Blockbuster for about $5...

You know, I've had an Xbox for almost a year now and I still have never even played Halo. The sad thing is I probably couldn't if I wanted to...I get seriously ill when playing FPS games. Someone please tell me that the game isn't that good so I won't feel bad about not being able to play it. :(
