Most of my playstation collection I've bought used and the biggest problem I've had with that is sticker residue, especially EB promotional trade in stickers. You know the big ugly yellow circles? Anyway I've tried a few different methods to remove them but none of them seemed to work. I've used googone, toothpaste (actually works great on cartridges), windex, and just plain rubbing the crap off with my thumb, a techinique that's sadly worked the best for me. Anyway would would you guys suggest I try next?

Also... there's some sticker residue on my Lunar 2 box. Not the case, the actual outer cardboard box. I haven't tried to remove it in fear of damaging the box, because otherwise it's perfect. How would I remove this?

Also what's a good technique for DVD cases? Last time I tried to clean one of those was with googone and it actually warped the clear plastic overlay. Eeep!

WD-40

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face.

It will get off ANY sticky residue and not bother the plastic. And with cardboard it does the trick without taking off any color 99% of the time.

I'm new I haven't been around long enough to hear you rant about the wonders of WD-40. (:

Anyway thanks, I'll ask my dad and boyfriend if they have some.

I've had a fair bit of luck with a white eraser. The heat generated from the friction seems to help things out.

Okay got around to cleaning a few PS2/GameCube/XboX DVD cases tonight and since we didn't have any WD-40 I just tried some rubbing alcohol which took the stickers right off. In some cases it broke up the sticker into tiny bits and spread it all over the case but with some continously light rubbing with the alcohol I got them all off.

Then usually the case was left with a sticky feeling to it but I was able to nuetralize it with some olive oil dabed onto a cloth. The cases now look and feel brand new.

Haven't tested Jewel cases yet but I would expect to have the same result.

Yea that works, but you'd be amazed how much quicker and easier the WD-40 is. ;)

Never tried WD40.....sounds scary since you can't aim it just perfect but I may give it a whirl. However, peanut butter works good. I've used it on strategy guides to get some huge stickers off and it works and WD40 probably does about the same since it penetrates it with oil.....just at a much faster pace. So, if you have a panesian you're cleaning up, might try PB first but if it's SMB you might try WD40 :D

paint thinner works well too! get sticky's right off and best off all, gets MAGIC MARKER off carts (completely). get some testor's paint thinner (from a craft store $.99) as it is used for plastic models (and therefore won't hurt plastic)

but DO NOT i repeat DO NOT use it on your cardboard boxes...it is paint thinner and WILL take the paint off.

and somebody said wd-40 would be hard to aim....spray it on the paper towel not the case?

and i can vouch for peanut butter, although i've never used it on a game before, i have used it to get price tag sticky's off and it works. you just better like the smell of pb.

You mean.....you almost have to hold yourself back from cleaning up the mess with your tongue. It seems like everytime I do it....I eat some PB too, but yet...nearly everytime I come too close to getting the two mixed up. That stuff gets pretty nasty after you rub it around on any surface. And another side note.....yummm! the smell of PB!

Oh don't worry I have lots of paint thinner. And yeah I know it's effect on magic marker. Damn goodwill....

But thanks for the tip anyway! (:

And you guys know Peanut Butter works because of the oil. Pretty much any oil will remove the stickyness... Peanut oil... Olive oil... wd-40. I liked the olive oil personally because it doesn't leave any oder. I tend to *clean* my cartridges with tooth paste... I don't think I could stomach a minty peanut butter smell. :P

Goo Gone. I swear by it. Nice orange smell, unlike WD-40 , which smells like my uncle's garage. :D

Topics about cleaning come up a lot, and they usually contain one tip that I haven't yet heard. Today, this is that tip, so thanks!

Would the WD-40 work on rental stickers on PS2 games? Not the outside of the case but inside on the actual paper/overlay or whatever you wanna call it. Damn rental stores and their stickers.

Also would paint thinkker work on a CD? to get marker off without damaging the cd. Just wanted to double check on that before I tried it. Thanks!

And that it why you shouldn't spray it directly onto the surface that you are cleaning, but rather onto a rag or other item to clean with.

That's the only thing I could figure. But, since nobody directly said it.....I figured, why not see if we can get a whole bunch of people to say it, because....not everybody picks up the implied ;)

Last night I was cleaning up a Tetris/Dr. Mario box for my boyfriend, trying to remove the used price sticker. And the oil actually removed all the paper but I was left with this clear "skin" stuck to the box which refused to budge until I finally tried a little bit of dilluted dish soap on and it came right off. Then again, nuetralized the stickyness with the oil.

So yeah dish soap's pretty useful too. Just don't dillute it too much... water + cardboard boxes = bad. :P

Hey you guysLet me give you a tip
a tip that you'll like much much more that Windex and Wd-40

It so simple you'll wander how you didnt think of it before.
Ad best of all its safe, doesnt smell doesn damage anything exept plain paper (but anything will damage plain paper) desnt damage golssy paper too like labels too but you got to be verry carefull with the last one.

The secret is... Plastic Scotch tape....

I use this like i use my tooth brush [everyday]

Heres what you do...go buy a 1 inch wide clear scotch tape not the blury looking one.

whenever you get a DVD case Jewell case game cartridge CD etc
just peal a corner of the sticker you want to remove and rip it quickly so that you can remove the top glossy part and reveal the paper leftovers/and glue.
Take twise the size piece of Scothc tape [for beter grip] and place it OVER the left overs.Dont place the entire tape on the surface, you have to leave enough tape so you can later pull on it.After you place it over the area you want to clean rub on it with your fingernail to get it to grip the leftover residue better. Then just grab on the tape and rip it in the oposite direction realy fast. Some times youll need to repeat 2-3 times and just keep turning the tape to a "unsused" side and pull again. The idea is that the tape will "pick up" the residue and paper/glue/sticker with itself.Youre done.
Leaving you with a perfect item.No scratches no messed up discoloration no wrinckled DVD case plastic thingie.

Remember for best results rip the sticker first to expose the PAPER base.
cause if you have just the glue to remove it takes more tries to compleatly lift it off.

Post some feedback
over time i'm sure you'll specialize it.
it's soo easy.

  "Get the glue off with stronger glue"

I thought we all did that......honestly. It's just fairly time consuming and not a quick fix. given the right stickers and the right situation which does happen quite a bit.....it will work good but I think people are talking about the time that things like that don't work. Anyways.....if you get a couple stickers off a case and the rest aren't perfect......just use the perfect stickers to lift off the imperfections left behind..

Yea i guess, that's how i started too but now i use only Scotch Tape not the sticker itself. It grips better and i got so used to it now that i dont think i'll use any other way.Infact i remove them in first attempt if you can pull on it at the right speed and the right angle.Over time of doing it you'll know what im trying to explain here.

nice topic by the way.
theese price and what not stickers have been bothering me for quite some time before
