Dance Dance Revolution and its expansions (Arcade, PS, PS2, XBox) - It's unlike any game you've ever played before. The original, and still best, dancing pad game. The music's good, the gameply rocks, and you lose weight while you play. Could you really ask for more?

SNES: Super Punch-Out--I've played the arcade game some but never really played the NES game much...but I love the SNES one. It's one of those games that's great for short gaming sessions...you can go through all 16 fighters in little over a half-hour. I never lose matches anymore (it's rare I even get knocked down) so it becomes a challenge to just better your times. Great cartoony graphics and (especially at first) a pretty good challenge. One of these days I'll manage my ultimate goal...to go through all 16 opponents without one of them laying a glove on me. Hasn't happened yet...

Atari Lynx: Klax Klax is available on a number of systems, but I first encountered it on the Lynx and it's one of my favorite games on that systems and I even like the woman's voice on it..."Klax....Wave..." It's one of those games where you match tiles or bricks...in this one you get more points for diagonal matches or getting 5 in a row correct. It's a fun and challenging puzzle game and a bit different from most of the Tetris-style games...

Monster Party for the NES- A mind Numbingly weird platformer, where you play as a kid named mark, who meets a gargoyle named Bert. And then you go through insane levels, with lots of blood that nintendo's censors missed (It's not graphic though). You fight weird bosses, such as a fried shimp that turns into a onion ring that turns into 3 onion rings tied to a stick!! Also, mark transforms into bert by eating a pill he finds laying on the ground during a level. I love weird games, and this has to be one of the weirdest!

Alien Vs. Predator on the Atari Jaguar. Everyone (pretty much everyone) agrees that Tempest 2000 is the best game on the Jag but I don't think this one is very far behind. The game is a first person game where you play either as a marine, an alien or a predator. It's very rich in atmosphere and gave me more than a few starts. I never even saw a Predatoro movie and I still enjoy it. If you own a Jaguar, it's one of only a few games that absolutely must be in your game library for that system.

Princess TOmato in the Sald Kingdom (NES, and possibly some computers)

If anyone out there is a Shadowgate/Deja Vu/Uninvited fan, you should check this game out. It uses a different engine, of course, and you don't have a hand cursor, but the commands are all very similar and it's a cute, fun, challenging game. It holds a record for me for longest game I beat in one sitting. The first time I played it I played it for 15 hours straight until I beat it.

World Driver Championship for the N64. A real sim racer for the system. The N64's Gran Turismo game. You have to pay attention in order to be competitive or the CPU will eat you alive. One of those racers where you hold your breath for the final lap.....and second place comes in on your bumper. Too bad that Boss Studios folded. I'd have loved to see a 128-bit version.

Better than Gran Turismo.

Why? Why? Why would you recommend a game no one ever has had a good word to say? So you can say you have the worst game in the history of the Super Nintendo?

I'd recommend Super Metroid...but I imagine everyone out there already has this one...

This is mostly something I said in another thread, but it works here too:

My recommendation is one of the most criminally underrated and overlooked games of any generation - Assault Rigs for PSX.

This mixture of shooter and puzzler from the now-defunct Psygnosis still holds up magnificently well, even in the graphics department. The game takes place in a "virtual world," and you control a futuristic tank. I haven't played it in a while, so my memory is a bit hazy, but I believe each level presents a series of goals, with the major one being to find the exit. Getting from A to B isn't always simple, which is where the puzzle elements come in. You may know where the exit is, but figuring out how to get there takes some work. Of course, there are enemies along the way to further complicate matters. It all makes for a damn fun and addictive gameplay experience.

Assault Rigs was a near-launch title that was overshadowed by just about every other high-profile release at the time, and thus it never got the attention or acclaim it deserved. It's a shame that more people didn't discover it at the time and even fewer people will discover it now because it's become a forgotten part of the PSX's early history.

Nice. What did you think of it?

And to stay on topic, I'll throw in another recommendation (also from another thread of mine):

Am I the only one who considers Rambo III for Genesis an underrated classic? It NEVER gets mentioned in any "Best of Genesis" topics. To me, it's an almost perfect action game - great graphics that have stood the test of time, AWESOME sound effects, fast action, cool weapons, and just plain fun gameplay. Even after all these years, I'm still not tired of it.

Plus, it's Rambo - what more can you ask for? :D

Yuke Yuke Troublemakers / Mischoef Makers for N64. In a world of the internet where treasure is worshipped, some of their most fun games are vastly unheard of still. Crazy. Your only weapon is your ability to shake things. There is a boss that shoots "bad" words at you, like hate, blood, etc, and you have to grab them, shake them therefore turning them into good words like love or peace, then throw them back at him. The final boss is also a battle that is pretty much completely pointless to have storywise, but damn fun regardless. Extra challenges to get all the gold gems and view the entire ending, this is one of those games that we are VERY lucky to have in the US.

Intelligent Qube for PS1. A great puzzle game where you're on a group of cubes with more gigantic cubes coming at you. You have to activate certain cubes to absorb the others and you're limited in time...you have to eliminate them before they squash you and before you run out of room on the platform. Great gameplay, fantastic music...the game isn't real cheap but if you can find it, scarf that sucker up...

Jumping Flash! and Jumping Flash! 2 for the PS1.

An early-life series that Sony has *totally* forgotten about, and so has the online community. (Knowing what all of the end of stage rewards one can get in the second game would certainly help seeing as how there's an unlockable secret tied into getting all of them....) Anyways, this game has quite the unique approach-a first-person platformer (albeit an extremely cute one, though the voice acting in the sequel successfully manages to play up the absurdity built into the game). Granted, the final bosses of both games are almost exactly alike, but the two games provide an alternate form of platform games in 3D to the now-standard Super Mario 64 model.
