I just heard that a company called NINTENDO was planning on releasing a totally new system that will blow the current ones out of the water! It's going to be the same as the one they are releasing in Japan! (Ohhhhh those crazy Japanese, what will they think of next).

Anyway dudes, what do you think of this RADICAL new NES system? I heard the graphics will be almost LIFE LIKE! ROCK ON!

Lighten up all...have some fun...I'm pretty sure Joe didn't make it '83 today for us to be all serious. It's April Fools day! Get over yourself and stop being so serious all the time. I, on the other hand, am having bodacious fun! So sorry for raining on your glum parade.

What's a "NES"? I've heard that the makers of Donkey Kong have released a new console called the Famicom in Japan... Do they have a second console out too?

That sounds cool but I would really like something I could hold in my hands and play, and take on a trip. It would have to have its own screen though I think. Wake me up when something like that is released!

What is the matter with you? Do we look like the Jetsons? I think it is time for you to start using your brain, because there is no way they could get the NES toi go portable, the technology just isn't out there.

You guys are all confused. It's called the Family Computer, and it doesn't come out for another three months in Japan. I saw a picture of Donkey Kong, it doesn't look as good as the Coleco version.

Then again, it's hard to judge, what with our archaic 1983 video capture and printing technology.

I heard they were going to sell their consoles at a loss and try to make the profit from liscensing games! That'll never work!
Once INTV comes out with their latest console, it'll be over for this LCD game maker, like, fer sure..

Not that I don't mind a good joke -- but the first time I heard of the NES was in 1987, NOT 1983.

Hell, in 83 I was only six years old and quite content playing my Atari 2600. :P

DONT BUY THE NES!!!!

I heard that no one would make games for it and it was going to have like no games at all!

Well, being that the NES was released in 1985...and the Famicom was released in 1983, I'm pretty sure there were at least SOME rumors going around in 1983...may have been late 1983...but I'm sure there were some.

Just cause you didn't hear about it till 1987 doesn't mean it didn't exist. :P

Are you a... a TIME TRAVELLER?! @_@

That's pretty cool! By the way, the 2600 era is way dead. You need to trash that thing and get yourself a ColecoVision or Commodore 64. Or if you're really adventurous like Cmosfm here wait two years for the US version of the Nintendo Family Computer.

I heard that Nintendo is going to use a 72-pin connector for their system. From what I've heard, these things will never go bad!

04-01-2004, 05:14 PM
Sounds pretty cool... but will it ever outdo the 2600 in sales, quality, and overall greatness? I dunno, that's a pretty hard challenge to beat! But any new video game systems are much appreciated. The marvels of evolution are nothing short of amazing... I'm getting one of these Entertainment Systems as soon as they hit the market. :D

Guys are crazy...the SG-1000's where it's at, man! Congo Bongo, Wonderboy, Borderline and N-Sub...and more...what else do you want from a console?!

I say this machine's gonna outlast that cheap Famicom.

@ the babies of 1983:

I was born in September 1982, so I never got that joy of playing the 2600 as a child during its heyday. (At least I was able to do that with the NES :) )

In April 1983, I was... what was I doing? Damn, I gotta look through some baby books. I know there's a few pictures from my first easter in there. I know my mom took more pictures of me in that first year of my life than there are of me the last ten years. LOL

And I was spared from words like radical too... at least until Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came along. LOL

Nintendo? Never heard of them...they'll never make it. Next thing you know, you're going to say that this Nintendo is going to make a system where you can take your video games in the car!! It'll never work...

Nintendo? Are we talking about the Game & Watch and Donkey Kong people? I don't think they'll be able to break into the American game market. Maybe they should get in bed with Atari, that would rock.

Didn't Nintendo used to make playing cards?

Ed Oscuro
04-01-2004, 08:13 PM
Hanafuda, yes. They weren't always called Nintendo, though.

Right before they got into video games they worked on some sort of electronic clay pigeon shooting game system, and the TV Game/Block Game systems were what saw them really get into the business. They've always been a sort of toy company.

Wow, first cars and now game systems. Bolt your doors and call Paul Revere... the Japanese are coming!

I don't know. The Famicom could be pretty promising... I know I loved those Game & Watches, and the Japanese have had a lot of impact on video games (even if the lousy bums at Midway try to hide that fact by taking ALL the credit for Pac-Man). Still, it's way too early to make a judgment on this system.

Plus, Atari pretty much controls the home console market with an iron fist... they'd crush Nintendo without a second thought, no matter HOW many Donkey Kong games they make for the Famicom. I like Mario, don't get me wrong, but you can't build an empire on him.

You guys are forgeting something: Nintendo is JAPANESE. Their product will NEVER fly in America. American consumers are NOT going to go crazy over these "foreign" games. I'm pretty confident that the Video game industry will be dominated by good ol' American companies for decades to come...

Well, we DID get a Commodore -- a 128D, actually, for Christmas of 1984. Our first computer. That's what finally caused me to pack up the old Atari. I used that Commodore on a regular basis up till I went to college in August of 1994 -- good life on that sucker. :P

I got the NES for Christmas of 1987, after just hearing about it for the first time.

Colecovision? I knew one friend who had one, with a few games. Never played it much. She was over at my house more often playing Atari. :)
