(Disclaimer: This is from Retrogaming Roundtable '83)
So I was at K-Mart the other day and I was looking at the 2600 carts. I noticed that E.T. which came out last Christmas, had lowered in price! One of the guys ay K-Mart said they were going to ship them back to Atari in a few days, so I decided to buy it.
And...well, I wish I had my money back.
The game is ridiculously hard! No wonder K-Mart was shipping them back to Atari! You have to collect phone pieces so you can "call home." It took me forever to get out of a hole after I fell in it. And then once I got out, I fell back in! When I finally found a phone piece, some guy took it from me, and I had to start all over again!
At that point, I said "screw this" and played Grand Prix instead.
E.T. has to be the worst 2600 game I've ever played! I wouldn't recommend it unless you're trying to build a huge collection of 2600 stuff. Unless you're a collector, I don't see any point in owning it, unless you like tacky stuff inspired by box offiice hits.
I almost buried my copy in my backyard, but I have a feeling that since K-Mart is shipping them back, they might become a little hard to find. Besides, I paid too much. But I wouldn't be surprised if Atari buried a bunch of these someday... LOL
