AWESOME. There's one thing that would make it even better.

Paper.

But that's not a big gripe. :D

You bet! Sounds like one of two things (or a combination of both):

1) You need to download and install the current Adobe (Acrobat) Reader (current version is 6.0).

2) Your printer is having memory overflow issues.

Once you install Reader 6.0, you should be good to go. :)

This is sweet. Is this going to be available monthly like this?

Bi-monthly is plan, I believe. Next issue in June. See page 47 of the issue for a preview of articles.

mine printed out pretty good... seems like just enough room for 3 ring binder punch out holes... my laser printer took a while with this puppy on 'best' quality though.

Thanks to everyone who have downloaded the new issue. We appreciate all the feedback we've been receiving as well.

We're still working out the kinks in this thing before we roll out the "hard launch" on Monday. We didn't put out any formal announcements out since we figured DP forums would be the first to locate it (we were right!). And we wanted you folks to have the first crack at it in case the site got overrun with downloaders.

Ok....now color me :embarrassed: How did I drop the ball? If you'd all turn your magazines to page 14 there is a section called Homebrew Reviews. Wouldn't it be great to know who actually wrote those? Well, in my rush to get this thing out there I forgot to drop in the credit.

So please get out your markers and write in big bold letters: "BY TIM SNIDER"

Sorry Tim! I feel like a real heel on that one. I think this could work to your advantage in San Jose though since I now feel a need to buy several heaping glasses of beer at Gordon Biersch to help alleviate my guilt. :embarrassed:

Thanks again everyone,

-Cav

Nice work.

I noticed Earl and Tim did some great stuff.

I always like PDF documents that use the bookmarks feature. It might be nice if that can be added in future editions. But, great work guys!

Very nice magazine. I really liked the way everything was laid out as well as the nice balance of classic/modern gaming content. There's some pretty impressive articles in there as well. Keep up the great work guys!

After printing the issue out I took it to kinkos to be spiral bound

It's now on the shelf with the 6 original issues

Every few months I will take them down and re-read them

It's a great time to be into retro gaming :)

I printed mine out on a good thick paper stock, three-hole-punched it and dropped it into a presentation cover thingie. And yep, it's sitting alongside the original six issues. :D

Glad everyone's enjoying it!

Hi again,

I just wanted to drop a line and give everyone a big thanks for taking the time to download and read our latest offering.

The reponse has been HUGE to say the least. Once the news hit Slashdot, and several others the hits to the site became enormous. One of the main reasons we didn't get "Slashdotted" is because Joe was kind enough to mirror the file over here at Digital Press. So we raise our beers high to him! Our third mirror was knocked out yesterday, and yet again Joe offered TWO MORE mirrors. So, again, thank you Joe!

We've also been getting some great e-mail with comments and suggestions for future issues. Keep 'em coming!! Write us at feedback@classicgamer.com and I promise we'll read them all.

Take care everyone and we'll keep you posted as to when the next issue will be available.

Best,

-Cav

Great work, guys!!! Very entertaining read, even though I really don't agree with the review of Midway Arcade Greatest Hits for the GBA...

My only qualm with it, and it's something that can be fixed for the next PDF-format issue, is the font contrast when the background is dark. On most pages, I can read without problem at screen width. However, on some pages, most notably the page containing the review of Tron 2.0, I have to zoom in the page quite a bit in order to be able to read the text.

Otherwise, great writing, great spawn of articles. I think I'll order the back issues. :)

Another great issue!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am having a big problem though.

I can't get it to print out. I have printed the first 17 pages
but anything beyond that I get a message saying I don't
have enough memory in my printer.

I am very very computer ingnorant. Does anyone have a
easy suggestion for someone who knows almost nothing
about computers??

Can you print a certain range of pages, like do 1-10 in one session, 11-20 in the next, etc. etc.?

T
07-04-2004, 09:59 AM
I was able to do that up until page 17

starting at page 18 I can't even print out a single page

Another excellent issue! I was curious to see if "The Living Daylights" would be included in the Bond retrospective, and it was. 2nd best Bond game IMO.

I am now living the 2600 "race to 300" so I read that piece with great interest. Just logged in my 253rd (Frogger II: Threedeep!).

I just wanted to drop a line and say *THANK YOU* big time for taking the few minutes to download the latest issue. Downloads have been through the roof and are way beyond my expectations. :D

And thanks for all of the comments and suggestions you offered from the first issue. We realize we're not perfect, but we do try to listen in regards to the likes and dislikes. For example we incorporated the bookmarks as well as tried to address the contrast issues Lady Jaye was good enough to point out.

Oddly enough I have yet to print out a copy of my own, so I'd be curious as to what people's results are when they do so. Other than absolute murder on your ink and toner bills, how do they look?

Keep the suggestions coming and I'll leave you with one of the better comments I've seen about the mag...

"I love it when people who are passionate about something put their heart into a project. The guys over at the Digital Press have a free PDF 'zine called Classic Gamer Magazine .This is their second issue, and if you are an old school gamer, or just want to take a trip down gamery lane, check it out."

Ha! LOL I'm glad to have the "unofficial" pairing with Digital Press and everyone here. DP and the forum posters (and lurkers) have been instrumental in getting this thing launched the past two times.

So...since I began with a "thanks," I'll end with one too!

Thanks and hope you enjoy! See you all at CGExpo.
