How to test a power pad?

I got a PP at a thrift store for $1 a while ago, but never got any games to test it with. I finally got World Class Track Meet for $0.89 at GS. I went to test the PP, but can't tell when I'm supposed to run on it... note that I am playing this on a Famicom with a pin convertor.

I 'think' it goes into port two, like a Zapper. Select options with controller, then run like an idiot. LOL

When I select an event, the game goes to the screen for that event and just keeps looping a music track. And pressing select goes to a score screen that says "Foul."

I think maybe a button may be always pressed on that pad, casuing the "Foul" .

Can anyone with a pad handy confirm this? You could just stand on it, and try starting a game.

If you could, please PM me with information on this converter cable you have. I haven't found any reliable plans online for one yet (I have found many conflicting ones tho..)
