I do, I do!
I got MGS2:S for Christmas but have not played it as I've been waiting for TTT. Well, I got TTT yesterday, and... DAMN I really suck at it. I get caught and usually killed at least 3 times per room, and I'm only in the 3rd or 4th one! I enjoy playing it, but I don't know what to do... I can sneak past guard ok, but the securuity cameras always spot me. I really like this game but just can't seem to get it. Can anyone help?!

I'm trying to decipher this post. Is TTT Tekken Tag Tournament? Why did you have to wait for TTT before playing MGS2? I tend to run about a year behind on my games, but you've got me beat by a long shot! :)
As for MGS2, you can usually see the guards before they see you, so shoot them. Or knock on the wall and grab them from behind when they come looking. The camera will not spot you if you cling to the wall. The first MGS had some sort of device that could temporarily deacivate the camera; I don't recall if this is in the 2nd game. The 2nd game is easier IMO.

TTT=The Twin Snakes... as in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, an updated version of the original Metal Gear Solid.

Actually TTS=The Twin Snakes :P
Yeah, if you hug the walls you could usually get past most of the camera's. I haven't played the Twin Snakes yet but I do have the original...I heard they upped the difficulty in TTS so I'm not sure if that much has changed. There were plenty of times in the original when I would get caught and killed like crazy. Most of it wasn't that bad but some parts were a bitch...all I can say is to keep on trying, eventually you'll make it through.

You can use chaff grenades to disable cameras or just shoot them. Make sure you have the silencer before you start shooting cameras or you will set off the alarms.

Don't feel so bad. I STILL can't get beyond the first screen on the original PSX version. :embarrassed:

I suck at Metal Gear Solid. I've been playing the game for about 6 years now. But I still get stuck at the point in the beginning where you're supposed to wait for an elevator. I always just end up running around while the guards chase me. I did make it up to the snow a couple of times, but they catch me in the lights! :hmm:

I'm awesome at, and love, the original PSX MGS. I don't like the MGS2 control system though (the first person option, specifically) so I"m worried whether or not I will enjoy TTS.

Well, I just made it past room 3... my total game time=44 minutes... I hope the next room has few guards *prays*

The only factor that I suck at here is that I can't get the Big Boss ranking. *EGO* 8-)
It's a damn hard game, I'll admit. So many points where death is random... anyone know how much harder Twin Snakes is compared to the original? Drexel said it was increased, but specifically what was altered to make it more difficult? The AI, I'm guessing...

Dig out my OWN thread on MGS: TTS if you want examples of how the AI was cranked up. ;)
Yes, the game CAN be hard at times.....I'm proud to say, however, I have once again taken TTS and spanked it over my knee. :D

Well, I can't say much as I'm being whooped in Very Easy for the most part... damn trap doors... I got through Ocelot (1st time maybe?) and now am wondering just how long this game will be (2 GCN disks!?).

Two ways to avoid the trap doors -- use your Infared Goggles and you can see them, or just run! They make a little 'ching' sound when they get ready to open, so stay on the move!
The best advice I can give you in general is to use patience, take out enemies and hide the bodies, avoid major firefights if you can help it, save a lot, and just think about the best way to get through areas. Calling your allies for help can give you a lot of usefull advice as well.

I never could get past the torture sequence in MGS. I gave up at that point because I was afraid I would ruin my controller if I kept trying.

I played through MGS on the PC. I didn't think it was all that great - lots of melodrama. I think we had a thread where we were laughing at the love blooming on a battlefield garbage.
On the PC it's a little tougher because it doesn't seem like it accepts an analog controller - it's only 8 directions. Makes it a little harder to aim. Some of the tricks for winning the boss fights have been removed, too (i.e. - the one where you have "two minds"). I beat it, though. I'm not going to get Twin Snakes, though, nor am I going to get the sequel.
For stealth games, the Thief series is way better.

I love Metal Gear, but although I am usually not a great gamer I always experienced them to be pretty easy if you play on a normal difficulty.

I suck at most Metal Gear Solid games. The only one I have had success with is Portable Ops on PSP.

I had an easy time with the original, but not the sequels. Too much nonsense going on with dragging bodies around and stuffing them into lockers.

I throughly enjoyed all of the metal gear solid series, playing each game over again multiple times. I'll admit though I never bothered to play them on any high level of difficultly. Just normal and below. I read a lot of people talking about how hard the games are and specifically dragging bodies around and stuffing them into lockers... there is no need for that if you're on an easy difficulty level. I understand if it's not your style to play on easy but if your losing all the time and complaining about doing boring stuff that you don't have to do when playing on easy.... why not play it on easy!
If you are already playing on easy maybe gamefaqs.com can help.

I love it when people miss the point of Metal Gear Solid so thoroughly.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first MGS on the PSone. I think the game was really well designed and made great use of the DualShock. The interactivity between the game and the user, especially the Psycho Mantis section with the moving pad and reading of your other Memory Card save files, is incredibly well done. Plus you need the original packaging ;) Makes the overall experience much greater.

I don't nessasarily suck at Metal Gear Solid. I'm just not a big fan of the slow ass action. I have the first one on PS1 and have never beaten it, but thats because I lost interest somewhere during the first level.

Didn't find the game difficult, just laborious.
I enjoyed the first MGS and didn't haw that much of a hard time with it, although I did die a few thousand times my first time playing. However, I suck horribly at TTS and Sake Eater and wish them both a horrible horrible death. Seriously, I can't get passed the tank in Twin Snakes and I always manage to fall off the first bridge in Snake Eater.

I'm not sure why I never responded to this one, as I sucked magnanimously at these games in 2004, and I'm pretty sure I still do. For some reason, it's just really really hard for me to NOT die in them. I'm pretty good at first-person stealth games however, such as the Thief series.

I had recently completed MGS3 but it's been awhile since I have played a mgs game. When I first played 3 it was very hard for me to play. I still am not used to it.

I've never played the originals :( , but I have owned both Sons of Liberty & Snake Eater.
I thought they were amazing and finished both on "European Extreme" (euro release top difficulty setting, I think) without major problems or difficulty, but I LOVE FPS stealth style shooters & play them alot.
The hardest thing I found were some of the Boss battles (that & playing as Raiden for most of MGS 2)

Really, I am surprised so many people have problems with MGS; I suppose you are more action-gamers then?
In MGS you need a bit of patience and study the way the enemies are moving for a while. This means that before you run into the middle of the room, you need to watch a bit in 1st person. Also, even if the enemies should notice you it is no problem; usually there are plenty of ways to hide. Just knock the enmies in sight unconscious and hide. Or leave the room.
For the European Extreme Mode : I played it through too, but I did die often.
Anyway, MGS is a great series, probably one of the best of all, and practicing it a bit is well worth it.

I just can't play MGS. When I see an enemy at the screen, I have an urge to kill him fast... and that's how cameras spot me most of the time :(

At first playing MGS I was like WTF why can't I just go in and kill people without having to sneak around them!
But then in my young age, well not young what did it come out in 1997/98? I was 18 or so but anyways I learned to be patient and learned to stealth like a pro whbich was good for future games like Syphon Filter and Splinter Cell...
MGS for the win can't wait for MGS4
