I never played this game myself, but it was pretty big smoke when it was first released, as I recall. And now it has been made freely available to celebrate its tenth anniversary, it seems.

I loaded up Morrowind, and it's OK. It's a static adventure, though...not a whole lot changes unless you make it happen. JEFFK's interview with the Morrowind guys was pretty hilarious, though.

For those of you who never played this game and like Morrowind, definitely get this. Personally I like the combat controls of Arena and Daggerfall a lot better (you hold the mouse button down and move the mouse left and right for a slash, forward for a stab and back for a vertical slice) as opposed to the Morrowind model. The leveling is old school style rather than the "use a skill often enough it increases" model of Daggerfall and Morrowind.
Originally I bought this game at a Softeach program in Illinois about 8 years ago for $5 on a bargain table. If I waited until the end of the show, I would have gotten it for free. Still, well worth the price of admission.
One really odd thing in Arena if you decided to be a thief and broke into homes: many times MONSTERS would enter the home you broke into and would ATTACK you! Either I would encounter them inside the house already (how they got there I don't know) or I would use the house to rest and then I'd get interrupted.
