A few days ago, i was reading an old argentinian gaming magazine and i saw some pics from Time Traveler from SEGA, i think it was the first and unique?? hologram game for Arcade, and i remember a few years ago playing it. It was one of the best arcade games i´ve ever seen, but i can´t find a place here that have it to play.
What are your opinions about this game?

I remember playing it in some arcades in Michigan. I actually liked it and thought the concept was entertaining.
Digital Leisure has released it on DVD for your own home "entertainment"

I try not to remember it if at all possible.
It's basically Dragon's Lair, with extremely sparse digitized graphics. In order for the holographic imagery to work, they had to cut back on the backgrounds, so the "scenery" often consists of a couple of rocks or a sign. The acting is cheesy and the gameplay is just as stiff and unforgiving as it is in any other FMV game. Unless you're a huge fan of those kinds of games, steer clear from Time Travellers. Escape into the distant future to avoid it if necessary.

I remember playing it when I was younger up in a hotel arcade (I think it was in frankenmuth). Interesting game, to say the least, but I was never a fan of the FMV gameplay. That big white cabinet is hard to forget though :)

I used to play it a lot. They had one of those cabs in the Hadley Mall in Hadley, MA. The deadest mall you've ever seen, there was a cheapass theatre and arcade there that thrived on all the college students. That machine rocked, totally unique. It really DID look like it was floating in the air.
BTW, forget about the DVD. I have it. 90% of DVD players take too long in signals for the game to work properly. My main DVD player is slow enough that it's unplayable.

I've been eyeing the Digital Leisure version for a while. If it is anything like the other games (Mad Dog Mcree, Who Shot Johnny Rock, and so forth) I would probably like it....so is it similar to these games or something different altogether?

I remember this game drawing serious crowds back when it was new. The "hologram" effect (not really a hologram but some funky trick with mirrors) was really eye-catching; you could even wave your hand right through the image!
It plays more like Dragon's Lair than any of the American Laser Games like Mad Dog McCree or Johnny Rock. The difference is that it's done with live actors (with very minimal props) and it's all seen from a side perspective.
Personally, I have good memories of it. I find these FMV/Laserdisc games to be a great guilty pleasure!

I played Time Traveller a few times back in the day. Most of those laserdisc games didn't have a lot of replay value for me. In a game like Galaga or Pac-Man you made several choices that led to your eventual outcome. In those laserdisc games it was just three bad choices and game over for me. Beating those laserdisc games didn't show any video game "skill" or reflexes, it just showed you had either bought a book and memorized the patterns, or you had spent way too much money and tried every possible move combination.
I never saw a group of people around Time Traveller ever for the fact that unless you were standing directly in front of the game while playing it or uncomfortably close to that person, you couldn't see the projection/reflection hardly at all.

Amen to that. You've perfectly described everything I hate about full-motion video "games". Sure, they look pretty, but where's the beef? Or the gameplay, for that matter?

Yea, i wouldn't buy the DVD version. The response time sucks terribly. It dosen't seem very fun.

I bought the dvd version used at EB for $2.49 about 2 months ago, haven't tried playing it yet though.
I remember when the arcade game went for sale at the local arcade, one of the workers bought it just to take the huge sony trinitron out of it (This is 10 or so years ago, a sony trinitron that big was worth a fortune)

I had cash in hand and they still had the forsale sign on it.I went and sad I wanted to buy it and they told me the manager had already bought it.
that pissed me off :P
