I couldn't find an old topic about this...

Has anyone else noticed that the connectors on a lot of Komani and Ultra NES carts have turned rusty looking?

I've seen a Metal Gear, Mission Impossible, Blades of Steel, Life Force, Gyruss, and a Top Gun with this, and I know I've seen more over the years

Were they made differently than other carts?

I recently bought a loose Blades of Steel. I don't remember the connectors looking bad, but it's possible I *didn't* look (though I believe I always do when I get a "new" NES cart from "water damage smell land," i.e. Goodwill) or didn't notice.

The plot thickens! Or as that dude from Snake's Revenge says...There is no rust on the carts!

None of my Konami/Ultra games are rusty.

Another thing...the whole connector's rusty, not just the part that's scraped against the contacts in your NES, right?

Perhaps your NES is leaving rust on the contacts? o_O

I also just realized that you were asking about regular Konami carts as well. The few that I can think of offhand (Mad City, er, Bayou Birry, that one's fine, so is my boxed Castlevania, and I think my...uh...Final Command* (oh blast, the jeep/shooting game, I honestly don't remember what it's called in the US right now) cart is fine as well. I would suppose those are fine as well.

*Erm, Jackal, that's right. I'd edit but that looks too funny typed up ;)

It's been over about 4 years I've been noticing that frequently on Konami/Ultra carts the connector that is showing, a lot have been that way. Kind of a dark brown color, rusty like. I remember I've also seen more than one Contra that was like that, all of them worked though

Ah, I never thought about it. About 10 of my carts are brown in the pin area, looks sorta like it was burned or something. All the nes games I have got at goodwill are in super exelent condition.

It's because the games are really good so they get heavy play. Check your copy of SMB 3 and it should be the same. Heavy use dulls the gold/shine. For a sharp contrast, check your Color a Dinosaur cart.

I THINK I know what you are talking about, whereas a few here I don't think know what you are talking about. Yes, I've noticed it mostly on BLADES OF STEEL and CASTLEVANIA...both Konami carts. Though it does happen on other carts, just not as bad.

Have I ever had it happen to me as in seeing a change? No. All the games that I've had like this were like this when I bought them....used.

Now MY description of it, hopefully we are talking about the same thing:

It has nothing to do with the pins themself. They are shiny gold like the day you got them! However, the "brown" is on the board itself, where normally it is a white color, but instead it is BROWN. ???. I don't know what causes it or if they were always like this...as all the games I got like this were used when I got them. The carts were all in NICE physical condition (I don't buy 'ugly' carts)....however, could it have something to do with having the game on for a VERY long period of time and the board getting too hot?

Hey now. Lets not talk about Color a Dinosaur when it is not present to defend itself. My copy never leaves my NES. :D

Yes, I think you've got it. Its just wierd, I've always noticed this on Konami/Ultra carts My Mission Impossible is like that, Cart itself looks fine, but the board has a brownish color, so does my Life Force, and they were like that when I bought them.... I looked at a friends collection and his Contra,Blades of Steel, and Metal Gear was like that, and over the years I've seen others, and its usually a Konami or Ultra Cart.

It just seems wierd to me that it almost always seems to be Konami/Ultra.....Maybe its some wierd thing in my universe sent here to just annoy me AHHHHHHH @_@
