Looks like director John Woo wants to spend mucho dinero to bring Metroid to the big screen. I wonder who will play Samus?

I'm not sure how it won't reek of the Alien series.....seriously. Metroid is so Alien-based it's rediculous.

One tiny problem. In the past, oh I don't know, ALL of the past Metroid games, hasn't Samus, you know, been light on the talking side? Wouldn't that make a movie plot kind of tough?

Since it's Hollywood, they'll try and bake in a plot, and new characters, and it'll suck. It'll look amazing, but it'll suck because it won't be Metroid.

It will be someone crappy like Jennifer Garner or Claire Danes... or God Forbid Jennifer Lopez.

Let's start a writein campaign to get Laura Prepon as Samus...

SOLD, sold... I concur. :D

A Metroid movie would be cool, if done right. The problem is that Hollywood hasn't been known to do video games justice in the theaters. But if this project comes to pass, we shall see... I'm curious, at least.

Milla might work, but she was already in resident evil. That might make things seem kinda weird. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000170/

Jordana Brewster has a ass-kicking potential http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0108287/

Dina Meyer(that girl from starship troopers) could work pretty well. She looks like she could handle herself. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000539/

All could do a great job, but the most important thing is a good script. We'll just have to wait and see...

Dudes, I could totally play the part of Samus Aran's boyfriend/knight-in-shining-armor.

I don't think I've seen any Jon Woo movies, at least any of his new stuff. I do know a little about his life, though. I find it interesting that his favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz.

John Woo used to be a great director, back when he was in Hong Kong. When he moved to Hollywood, however, he just churned out one formulaic action movie after another. All of the typical "John Woo" elements have been overplayed beyond the point of parody (the doves, the slow-motion shots, etc), and you really have to feel sorry for him. You wish he could have somehow stretched his wings a bit, instead of cashing in on his former fame. Now, he's just a parody of himself in a town that caters to stoned-out 13-year-old boys.

I'm sure a good Metroid story could be made somehow, but more than likely it would end up being another cliched Star Wars/Matrix/comic book ripoff, down to the tired one-liners and overdone computer effects.

I honestly don't believe that there ever has been a good movie that was based on a videogame, and there probably won't ever be. The Hollywood studio system, and all that wonderful corporate money, has pretty much guaranteed that.

The only type of game that could be made into a good movie are the Metal Gear/Splinter Cell type games.

And this is the reason I am not excited about this. Sure I'll go see it, but I'd rather watch the Mario Bros movie before a Jon Woo film. Here's hoping he lets someone else direct it.

I could see Jessica Alba doing this also. After all, she did do Dark Angel for two years. :)

Do people really need to talk in a John Woo movie? (For that matter, do they even really need a plot?)

I'm thinking Mission Impossible 2 - In Spaaaace. (What a ferociously cheesy movie that was.)

Video Game Movies are hit or miss.

And if you're wondering, I loved Super Mario Bros. If that tells you anything. ;)
And Resident Evil was.. interesting.
I didn't care for Mortal Kombat.. or was it Street Fighter.. or was it both? Whatever the hell it was.

I'm still eagerly waiting for a DOOM movie. But hey, I'd love to see a Serious Sam movie.. The game is MADE to be a movie. I wonder who would play Sam...

I don't really get into the Metroid series. In the same way I don't get into the Mega Man series. But the movie may be interesting if done right. Not that I'll see it when it's in the theater. There are a select few movies I'd see when they are out.

i think she's too old for the role...how about the alias girl?

That was a joke... as Rob pointed out making a Metroid movie is a lot like making an Alien ripoff. I always figured Metroid's plot was sort of a nod to the Alien series anyway. Kinda like the last level in Contra.

That was Natasha Henstridge, who was already suggested.

Just to clarify something, Dina Meyer was Dizzy, the girl who gets nude in the shower scene in Starship Troopers. (just in case anyone reads "the girl from Starship Troopers" and thinks Denise Richards, who would be an awful choice IMHO)

I think Dina Meyer could be a great choice, but she's 35. They'll probably want to go with someone younger.

Go with a gal around 30. If they make Samus into a 19-year-old, a lot of the credibility will be gone.

As for plot, mix the origin with Super Metroid. That'll be cool.

Well, if they just leave her in her suit and helmet the whole time, does it matter WHO plays? :)I thought of that, but then I realized, this is Hollywood. No damn way in hell would they keep the helmet on. They'll find SOME way of "fixing" the suit or giving Samus some "Downtime" when she doesn't need the suit.

Leaving her in the suit the whole time would be a bad idea. It might work in a game, but in a film it would make the charicter seem like a robot, and it would be hard for the audience to relate to her. Also who wants to see someone with a mask bobbing there head up and down whenever they're talking(it'll end up feeling like power rangers).

no, just no. if there are any new characters in the movie, it will surely suck. the whole appeal of the Metroid is that samus is the ONLY human on a huge planet full of aliens and hostiles, and she has basically no backup or any signs of humanity. if there were a "old scientist guy" character, or a "knight in shining armor", it would be too friendly/sappy to truly be metroid. the whole point is that samus does'nt need someone to "save her" i know you were joking but still...
