Hi, I'm a new collector to the old video game area. I have an NES, SNES and N64 and i was wondering what is the best way to go for storing and saving your video games for years and years to come. I want to keep them in the most pristene condition as possible. All advice is appreciated! :D

For the 3 systems you refer to, i prefer the hard plastic "official" (not that it makes any real difference) snap cases. Takes up a little more shelf space, but i know nothing is rubbing on my labels and dust isn't settling on the contacts.
Just my humble 2 cents.

**oh yeah, and welcome to the DP :bigmac:

I'm fairly new. One year in Mid-June. I've probably spent a few thousand dollars in the past year on games.

Currently I'm more of a Gamer. I only buy what I'll be playing or something really cheap. I'm currently hooked on Vexx (AKA the Super Mario 128 that never was.) and Futurama on my Xbox. My brother's kicking it with his new PS2 playing FF X, FF X-2 and Kingdom Hearts. And next week, Serious Sam Cube comes out. I'm all about games I wanna play now. At least until my income gets back to normal. I think I've got a nice collection so far. But I'm running out of room. So I have to slow down for now.

Plus I have my Game Boy Advance which I got a month and a week ago. I have 10 games already. And I love the thing to death.

luckily for us keeping nintendo cartridges good for years is pretty easy. cases are ideal but chances are your collection will get so big so quickly you wont have enough. the important things are, keep them away from direct sunlight and moisture (no basements). i've never seen a US nintendo cart go off colored from sunlight but i have seen it happen to superfamicom carts. its also a good idea to wipe the contacts of each and every game before you put it into your console, once grime gets shoved into the console its a lot harder to get out than on the cart.

good luck collecting, right now is a great time to be gathering up the nintendo goods!

if you are collecting just cartridges, i would not worry about storage too much. just keep the carts away from direct sunlight and moisture- you should be all set.

if you are collecting the cardboard boxes also, then you may have to dust them once or twice a year as they sit on a shelf...
no biggie.

pretty much staying away from the direct sunlight and excessive moisture is the biggie.
dont store them near baseboards or a radiator (even though it may work short term, could be real bad long term)\

think thats about it from me
