Seriously

in the past week, I went to flea markets, Goodwill, Old Video stores, Sal Army, Game Stops and EB's...

...other than 1 guy at one Flea Market who was selling all common carts for $5 (and a complete Zelda for $25...pffft), nothing there.

Sal Army/Goodwill: Nothing (One World Class Track Meet at Sal Army for $1....that was it)

Old Video stores: nothing except common SNES/Genesis games.

Game Stores: A few rarer carts, and a couple Complete games (Fester's Quest, Bad Street Brawler, and Big Bird's Hide & Speak for ~$13).

*sigh*

The only places that I actually found stuff (game stores)...that's all they have as they don't take trade ins anymore on old stuff....

...which means all I have left is....Ebay

DonŽt worry, eBAY is a good way to find interesting items, maybe you will find the best stuff for your collection here...

Don't forget about the Buy/Sell forum and other game websites online...you'll usually have a good chance at finding games you want for a decent price. Plus theres always trading. I do know what you mean though...I'm lucky to live close to the gamestop that got all of the old carts in the district so I got most of the games is still needed. Other than that, theres really no store around me that has them. And don't discredit ebay so fast, you can always find good deals if you look hard enough.

Also I know a bunch of people who use gametz.com with decent results (though I've never used it myself).

The only things i can think of that you haven't mentioned are yard sales. That's usually where I find the best deals.

With the Funcostop stoppage of pre-PSX tradeins, expect yard sales, fleas, and thrifts to pick up a bit when spring cleaning picks up.

Even if your stores are cleaned out, keep checking. I found 13 NES games (all dirt common, don't get your hopes up ;)) at the local Salv today after not seeing any for a good 3 months.

I feel like such a jackass going to thrift stores, rolling in driving a $30k car (my mom's, and since she only works 3 days/week, we share) -- above all else being an Audi A4, lol. :|

Now this "exhaused" - how do you exhaust a Goodwill? New stuff is coming in all the time. If I'd given up I wouldn't have found a $5 Model 2 SNES, eh?

As for the money thing...well, whoever gets there first with the money gets the goods. It's a non-issue for me.

That said, good luck.

The thing about goodwill and thrift stores is... you NEVER know what you are going to find. One day they might have nothing, the next day there might be 4 boxed NES games sitting right there (this just happened to me ;)

Back in my younger days i shopped at goodwill for clothes. One day i wouldn't find anything, the next week i might find 3 cool t-shirts. It's the same thing with games. And don't go in expecting to find a copy of flintstones 2 lying around for 1.99...hope for a copy of a megaman title or ice hocky.

On another note, a friend of mine handed me an orange zapper and a tmnt nes game he got at goodwill. i asked him what else they had, a system for $10 he says with 4 controllers. I rushed down there to get it and it was gone (40 minute drive to that goodwill). That's just the way it goes.

A guy I work with is thinking of getting snes ( i think because i keep talking about old games with him lol)...he's looking on ebay right now...so another guy we work with says he has a few friends that would sell one for cheap. So that's another thing, be resourceful, if he lucks out he'll score one for $10 instead of $40 after shipping on ebay (or however much they are).

and i've gotten some good deals already on THIS forum in buying/selling. most of these guys don't charge an arm and a leg for shipping, and shipping really counts in my book.

and nobody ever said collecting anything was cheap. that's just the nature of collecting.

good luck and don't get too mad at cmosfm LOL

I love places like salvation army, and goodwill. I go to salvo(salvation army) every saturday when they put out new stuff, and most of the time there is nothing, but the time you do find something makes it all worth while. You get a great price, and you feel good about yourself. Just recently i got Fist Of The North Star(NES, 1.50), Mortal Kombat(in beautiful condition with box and all inserts, 3.00), and a saturn joystic(2.00)........That kind of stuff makes my day :D

I live about within a 10-15 block radius of three thrift stores (Goodwill, Value Village and St. Vincent De Paul), and I see Audis, BMWs and the like in the parking lot every now and then when I'm at one or pass by it. And I don't live in a wealthy area or anything.

But anyways, don't give up on those thrift stores. You never know.
