View Full Version : What Game Has The Best Create-A-Player Options?

I was playing Top Spin last night and decided to create a player...I thought it might be neat to try creating a celebrity as a golfer so I tried to create Julia Roberts...the problem there is (1) Her name was one letter too long so I had to settle on naming her Julia Robert and (2) The amount you could alter the appearance seemed to be a bit limiting. So I'm wondering which other games might have really good options for creating players. Maybe I could try getting a wrestling game and creating Roseanne Barr and Geena Davis as a tag-team...

I would say the Tony Hawk series, although I haven't bought a new installment since TH3. Tony Hawk 2X on Xbox has a combination that looks just like an outfit I used to wear all the time, but I doesn't have beards. I think TH3 mimics me just right.

With that said, I hope the next Grand Theft Auto has a create-a-player mode, although I doubt it will...

I've actually been thinking of getting WWE SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain but will likely wait until the price comes down a bit...

As far as overall appaearance, I have to agree with WWE: Here comes the Pain / Shut your Mouth.

For faces, Tiger Woods 2004 golf all the way. I was at work and made myself, walked away to help a customer, and another customer walked up to the display, looked at the face, and did a double take my way. :D

The CAW in WWF: No Mercy was really in depth. I don't know about Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain as I've never tried the CAW on that yet.

WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain (PS2)

Oh god yes. You'd be amazed what you can do with that engine with a little imagination...we've made a giant evil looking Red Monster, Dr. Robotnik, Abe Lincoln, Winston Churchill, SNK's Ikari Warriors, Puffy AmiYumi, guitarist Paul Gilbert, Robocop, just all sorts of crazy stuff. And it all looks good, too.

The only thing I'd like is more options for entrances, and raw 2's ability to put in your own music.

I'd been thinking of getting WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain anyway so I'll definitely be getting it now. I will likely also get the new Tiger Woods game but I've never been too much into basketball or soccer so I will likely pass on those...

I think that I created an almost spitting image of myself in TH3. With the send in your face option that Neversoft has, THUG is even more realistic.

A couple others if you have alot of time include, the RPG Maker and Fighter Maker serieses. Just the fact that its a complete you create function, the possibilities are pretty broad there, thought you tend to get stuck with 2D sprites in RPG, and the 3D models in Fighter are a little weak lookin, but you cant beat the options.

Wrestling games definitely get the nod here. A friend and I used to have endless amounts of fun creating our bosses in Wrestlemania 2000 on the N64... in fact, we spent more time making characters than actually wrestling!

I also think some recognition should go towards Fire Pro Wrestling on the GBA. For a 2D Gameboy game, I was extremely impressed with the amount of customization you could do.

However, I was somewhat disappointed with THUG... The hairstyles are very limiting, and not counting the whole "put your face in the game" trick (which isn't available on my Gamecube version), the faces are also very limiting. I had a lot of trouble making anything that looked remotely like myself in the game, and I'm a pretty average looking guy.

Somehow, I managed to hold off on WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain...it's now down to $20 so I've ordered a copy. Interestingly, I've noticed a few sites are still charging $50 for that game.

For just sheer wackiness, I'll second NBA Hangtime (or its kissing cousin, NBA Showtime). Nothing like playing basketball in a giant chicken suit.

I vote for WWF Smackdown 2 (Ps1) for my ability to created the entire Street Fighter Roster. My Cammy rocked :rocker:

I've tried the PS2 ones, and while good, the 'realistic' graphics make cartoon charater creations look really silly.

FIre Pro D.

The sheer amount of options is staggering.

The MMOG 'Eve' has incredible features. All you do is create a face, but you can change EVERYTHING. I would be that its close to 20 options. (My brother plays this, but he let me screw around with the face maker. Its nuts and a half.)

Tiger Woods 2005 is the winner here. The Game Face II as EA likes to call it let's you change everything. I think there's about 100 (ball park) attributes, many with sliders, only for the face. You can spend a good hour with it.

Smackdown games for sure. Tony Hawk second.

There are almost TOO many options.

Since it was so cheap, I went ahead and ordered a copy of that Smackdown 2 game for the original Playstation. I already have the first THUG as well as Tiger Woods 2004...is 2005 that much of an improvement?

In a similar vein, I know you can create your own super-heroes in City Of Heroes but that's for the PC. Is there a similar kind of game for one of the consoles? Or will City Of Heroes be coming to a console eventually?

I'd bet that the only console powerful enough to run City of Heroes is the Xbox, and Xbox Live's subscription program is not very friendly for MMOGs with monthly fees (because XL has a monthly fee itself, and lots of people don't want to pay TWO monthly fees just to play one game). So no, I don't think you're going to see CoH on consoles any time soon.
