Does anyone know of any adapters to play European PAL games on an American Super Nintendo? I've seen adapters to play Japanese Super Famicom games on an American Super Nintendo, and I've seen adapters to play American NTSC Super Nintendo games on a European PAL Super Nintendo, but I don't know of any adapter to play European PAL games here in the U.S. Surely there is such a thing???

My neighbour has an US SNES and he plays PAL games on it with a converter. I think those Fire Converters can do that (i can't check it out, i got no US SNES :( )

Yeah you need a convertor that allows the plugging in of US SNES games to bypass the security procedure. The only warning I will give is that many PAL games were optimised to run at 50Hz (so that we would be playing the same speed as US/Japanese players would despite the fact our SNES was slower) and hence when they are run on US SNES, they go even faster! Had much fun with this on Super Tennis for example LOL

An Action Replay 1 or 2 will do the trick most of the time - there's a few late releases that can be awkward, but the bulk will be fine (the AR2 has works with some that the other doesn't). As Mayhem said, a few games will run a bit fast if they were PAL-optimised (Mario Kart is another example), but most will be fine.

As it happens, Ive got an Action Replay 2 on eBay at the moment ;)
£17.50 BIN (they've sold for upto £30 recently)

The game I'm working on finding a way to play is a rather late release, Terranigma by Enix. I found a converter on Lik-Sang.com, but a post there said it wouldn't work with Terranigma. But I've found a Fire converter that I'm told will work. Has anyone ever used a Fire PAL-NTSC converter? Does it require any modification of the SNES, like breaking those two tabs people break to play Japanese games? I'd prefer not to do any modding.

I think only the really, really late convertors will work with Terranigma. One of those annoying "why didn't it come out in the US?" games...

Definitely one of those games. I would rather be playing Tales of Phantasia, though.
Wha--? Do the NTSC -> PAL convertors also have problems with speed?

I purchased a HONEYBEE converter which says on the box that it plays EUR and JPN games on it. It is strange in that you have to plug in both a US game and the game you are playing. However, does this play those games with those two extra connector boards that are on the sides? The connectors have the plastic, but I see no pins ...just plastic... for those two smaller boards on the ends....

The US cart is there so the SNES can read the region header on it, making it 'think' that the Jap/EU cart is really a US game, and thus able to play it.

It uses the security chip from the cart on the side (recommended people use a game without backup on it because it can be wiped) to bypass the necessary checks, and then uses the code from the game on the top to boot.

Thanks for this info on the save backup erasing, and also to anagrama. I was not sure what the point was, as I thought you could play any of the games as long as you trimmed the system's 'tabs' or whatever. Cool beans. :) I will have to check out the thing again, as I still wonder if it will play import games with the extra smaller boards on the sides (like what Mega Man X2 and X3 US have...) in addition to the one long board...
I am on the hunt for ROCKMAN AND FORTE because the GBA version just isn't satisfying me as it should. Not enough screenspace around Mega Man. I want several others, though.
