I've been looking into playing imports on my PS2 recently, and though tof something: With GCN imports, sometimes, you have to use a different memory card to save files as different regions' files sometimes aren't compatible with different country formatted memory cards. DOes anyone have a list of PS2 imports' saving compatability with a US formatted card, and the same with GCN games? I am talking about EU/PAL games as well s JP/NTSC games.

I never had a problem saving JPN games on the same card as my US saves for PS 2, DC, Saturn and so on. I think it's just the GC that does this... man did it piss me off the first time I tried to save.

Took out my info with the correction from Mayhem.

Only the West/Japan for GC. It's because the Cube formats the card for either roman (Western) or kanji (Japanese) alphabets you see.

You can happily have saves from PAL games and US games on the same GC memory card.

I've had problems with Sega Rally on my Saturn. If I have a PAL/NTSC save on the memory card and try to load it with NTSC-J Sega Rally (or vice versa), the data gets corrupted and can't be used anymore.

THAT's a different issue totally. game saves for the same game from different regions don't usually work if you try to continue, say, a JPN sega rally on a US or PAL save. there are a FEW exceptions, like D2, which lets you continue a US version save over a Japanese save, and vice versa...

Most it don't work with the same game from different regions, but it too don't work with the same game, when it is a later different release.
I have try it with Final Fantasy VII (JAP) & Final Fantasy VII International (Jap), which is the later release with Weapon Monsters, Savefile from the second don't work with the first release. And it can be, that it too don't work, when you have a normal release and try the same Savefile with a Promo Version from the same game.

But on Saturn it has work great by Shining Force 3. First CD was PAL or NTSC (not sure anymore). And 2nd & 3rd CD was only released as JAP. But the Savefile from the First CD has work great with the next CDs. And all names from the characters was in standart letters.

Yeah, it's pretty much only the GameCube memord card that acts funky about it. I haven't ran into any problems with any other console.

Sonic Adventure 2 for Dreamcast does this. I got the NTSC-J version and it loads my PAL version's save file.

Heck, even when there's no memory unit inserted, the JP Sonic 2 will somehow recognise it's being played on a PAL system, and will load just like the PAL game - even asking me if I want to run in 50 or 60Hz mode. :o

actually, quite a few DC games do this. record of lodoss war, nightmare creatures 2, stunt gp, and a few others. in the US, some games have this in the options screen, but it's grayed out and can't be selected... :D
