I would say Three Dirty Dwarves is one of the best games on the Saturn, I've had hours of fun with that. It's a sort of Double Dragon-esque beat'um up side-scroller, but with three characters you can be and fight as, each with different weapons.

The Virtua Fighters should be givens, most of them (Remix wasn't that fluid and just didn't feel right to me). Virtua Tennis was pretty fun, as was Daytona USA. I don't have many SS games, so these are about all that I can recommend. THough I've heard Shining Force and Panzer Dragoon were great titles. Oh, and if you haven't played Tempest 2000 on the Jag, try to find it for the Saturn. Best. Game. EVER.

Must have light gun games:
Virtua Cop
Virtua Cop 2
House of the Dead

Must have others:
Panzer Dragoon (any)
Darius Gaiden
Virtua Fighter 2
Daytona USA Championship Ed. (not just plain Daytona)
Fighters Megamix
Die Hard Arcade
In the Hunt
Rampage World Tour
Super Puzzle FIghter II Turbo

...and tons more, but a few o' these oughta get you started. :)

Excuse me, I have to go kick my own ass now. :embarrassed:

From what I understand, you can't run imported games on a US system. You need an adapter or swap disc or something.

Dragon Force!

for import games, just pick up a Pro Action Replay

Is Saturn Doom any good? I liked PSX Doom despite the changes, although I wish they kept an option to choose between the ambient and normal soundtracks. Not a fan of the amibence.

How does or what is the pro action replay? :o

What? No Nightwarriors?
Dude, if you're at all interested in Capcom fighters, this is the first one you must buy. I think it's actually BETTER than the sequel, Vampire Savior... sure, it has longer loading times and fewer characters, but its atmosphere is much more appealing, with a more fitting soundtrack and better stage designs.

Doom for the Saturn is okay i wasnt a big fan of doom ever but my friend that was with loves doom and insists on me buying it. And it was only 4 dollars so i figured why not. But for the little i played it was enjoyable

Virtua Tennis was pretty fun, as was Daytona USA.

Virtua Tennis ROCKS. But it's only available for the Dreamcast. :)

Maybe you're thinking of Virtual Open Tennis (by Acclaim) or Break Point Tennis (by Ocean)?

THAT was it! Virtual OPEN Tennis! I knew I'd said that wrong, it's so easy to get the two titles mixed up. Thanks, AA!

But yeah, after you get your Saturn collection started I highly recommend getting a Dreamcast too. Even if just for Virtua Tennis. LOL

Clock Tower, maybe? I know there's installments on the Super Famicom and PlayStation (I think even in English, that last one).

pro action replay

goes in the cart slot on the saturn. It's a memory card, cheat device, import game player, and 4M/1M RAM cart (come games require ram carts).

Get one of these, put it in your cart slot, play any game from any region and never worry about anything again :)

Check out the Import-Mania forum for lots of great suggestions on saturn imports that are good. Except for the famous few, lots can be had cheap!

Well, having a saturn without Nights and the Panzer Dragoon games is like having a cheese sandwich without cheese!

Also, Megaman X4 and Megaman 8 are available for saturn, and the saturn version of 8 has many extras not in the PS1 version.

This is by no means a comprehensive list. There are many Saturn games I have yet to play and I'm sure there are still some jewels out there. I've only played roughly half of the US and Japanese released Saturn games. This list was compiled using my collection list as a starting point. Again, this is far from complete and I've likely forgot some.. Also, I've left off most Import RPGs and Sims due to the high language requirement. Hope this helps.

US
-----------
Albert Odyssey - 2D Turn Based RPG. Bothersome load times, but still a worthy addition.

Astal - 2D Platformer. Beautiful art. Fun game, but nothing outstanding

Baku Baku - Falling piece puzzler. Match the animals with the food. Quite fun.

Burning Rangers - 3rd Person Futuristic Firefighting from Sonic Team. A bit too ambitious at times, but a solid game nonetheless.

Christmas NiGHTS - Christmas themed Bonus disc. Features a winterized level from NiGHTS and tons of extras including a level that lets you play as Sonic.

Clockwork Knight - Early 2.5D platformer. Both part 1 and 2 are great fun, though simple in design.

Dark Savior - RPG with an isometric perspective and one on one real time battle system. Spiritual followup to Landstalker. Opinions vary on this title, but I liked it.

Daytona USA - Arcade port. Classic racer. Goes for pennies these days. Should be in every Saturn gamer;s collection.

Die Hard Arcade - 3D Beat Em Up. Also known as Dynamite Deka. Prequel to Dynamite Cop 2 on Dreamcast. Opinions on this title vary, but I enjoyed it.

Dragon Force - 2D Strategy. Simply awesome. Wage all out war with 100vs100 battles. Big thumbs up.

Enemy Zero - Cinematic Adventure with first person combat from Warp. Like their previous game D, this is a love it or hate it title.

Fighters Megamix - 3D Fighter. Virtua Fighter vs Fighting Vipers basically. Some other characters are available as well including Janet from Virtua Cop 2, Rent a Hero, a couple characters from Sonic the fighters and who could forget, the car from Daytona USA.

Galactic Attack - 2d Vertical shooter. Quite cheap these days and a lot of fun.

Guardian Heroes - 2D beat em up/rpg from Treasure. One of my favorite games of all time.

House of the Dead - Only home port of the arcade original. Ugly as sin, but otherwise faithful to the arcade.

Last Gladiators Digital Pinball - Pinball. Best Us released pinball title for Saturn.

Legend of Oasis - Overheaed 2D Action RPG. Sequel to Beyond Oasis(Genesis.) Awesome game.

Magic Knight Rayearth - Overhead 2D Action RPG in the mold of Zelda. Based on the Manga and anime of the same name.

Mr.Bones - Odd mix of genres. As with a few other titles on here, opinions seem to be split on this so I'd recommend doing research before picking it up.

NiGHTS - Buy it. Simple as that.

Nightwarriors - 2D Capcom fighter. Only Us released Saturn Darkstalkers title. If you are into imports, Vampire Saviour is beter. Otherwise go for this.

Panzer Dragoon - 3D On Rails Shooter. The reason I bought a Saturn all those years ago. To this day, when I see the opening level and here the music I still get chills.

Panzer Dragoon Zwei - 3D on rails Shooter. Second game in the series.

Panzer Dragon Saga - 3D RPG. Personally, I find the constant FMVs to be bothersome but this game is unversally loved. I can't help but wonder if the high price has something to do with it. I got it when it came out for $50, so my expectations weren't as high as those paying $150+. Regardless, it's still a fun game and the battle system is refreshing.

Robopit - 3D Arena based Robot Combat/Construction. Supposedly superior to the Playstation version. Build your robot from hundreds of parts and battle it against tons of opponents.

Saturn Bomberman - Best Bomberman game made IMO. Playable over the Netlink via direct dial.

Sega Rally - 3D Rally Racing. Still one of the best racers after all these years. Netlink version is playable over the Netlink with direct dial.

Shining Force 3 - Strategy RPG. Only one scenario was released in the US but it's still one of the best on the system.

Shining the Holy Ark - First person RPG.

Sonic Jam - Collection of the 16bit Genesis games. Filled with extras such as Japanese commercials and the intro to Sonic CD. There is also a 3D Sonic area to play around in.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 - 2D Fighter.

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo - Falling Piece puzzler with SD Street Fighter Characters. I personally prefer the Japanese only Dreamcast version but this is still a worthy addition.

Three Dirty Dwarves - 2D Beat Em Up. Surprisingly fun. Take control of three chaacters at once with the ability to switch between them on the fly.

Virtua Cop - Light Gun Shooter. Arcade port.

Virtua Cop 2 - see above.

Virtua Fighter 2 - 3D Fighter. While I feel VF4 EVO finally surpassed this gem, it's still worth a look. Besides, it is very cheap.

Virtua Fighter Kids - 3D Fighter. SD VF characters duke it out.

Virtual On - Arena based Mech Combat. Netlink version can be played over the netlink via direct dial.

Import
-----------------

Akumajo Dracula X ~Gekka No Yasuokyoku~ - AKA Castlevania SOTN. Lackluster port of the Playstation classic. In addition to two new areas, a playable Maria and a few minor additions Konami also gave us more slowdown and loading. For big fans only.

All Japan Pro Wrestling featuring Virtua - 3D Arcade style wrestling. Surpassed by it's sequal on Dreamcast but still enjoyable.

Assault Suit Leynos 2 - 2D Action/shooter. Sequel to Target Earth(Genesis.) Tough as nails.

Bokan To Ippatsu! Doronboo Kanpekiban - 2D Vertical Shooter. Generally overlooked, but it is probably my favorite for the system.

Break Thru! - Puzzle game similar to Sega Swirl....errr...Sega Swirl is similar to this.

Chase HQ + SCI - Driving/Action. Arcade ports of Chase HQ and it's sequel SCI.

Choro Q Park - 3D SD Racer. Saturn only installment of the long running Choro Q series. The gimmick here is that you can use up to four cars per race. Before the race you can place each car at a set point in the track. When your current car reaches that point it will morph into the selected car. This adds a bit of strategy to the racers. Quite fun. Mild language barrier.

Clockworks - Puzzle game from the creator of Tetris. Spin a little man through the gears of a clock.

Deep Fear - Jp and Euro only Survival horror. All voice acting is in English.

Dejig Tin Toy - Digital Jigsaw Puzzles.

Detana Twinbee Yahho-! Deluxe Pack - 2D Vert Shooters. Collection of two Twin Bee Games.

Elevator Action Returns - 2D Sidescrolling action. Port of the Arcade sequel to Elevator Action. Also includes unlockable version of the Arcade original.

Fighting Vipers - 3D Fighter. Opt for the Japanese version as it includes an extra playable character: PEPSIMAN!

Fire Pro Wrestling S 6Men Scramble - 2D Wrestling sim. Until Fire Pro Wrestling D(Dreamcast) came out, this was the best wrestling title ever. Hundreds of wrestlers from across the world. Up to six in the ring at once. This is a sim and not an arcade style game and as such there is a learning curve. You have to work a match. Start out small and work your way up. Sure, you could try and powerbomb someone at the start of the match, but chances are, you will be the one tasting the mat. Features a timing based grappling system as opposed to the button mashing found in other games. Large amount of Japanese but there are tons of FAQs around. You can even rename all of the wrestlers in English if you so choose.

Funky Head Boxers - 3D Arcade boxing.

Gradius Deluxe Pack - 2D Horizontal shooters. Collection of Gradius 1 and 2.

Guardian Force - 2D Vert Shooter. You control a tank type ship complete with rotatable turret. Overlooked, but great fun.

Gun Frontier - 2D Vert Shooter. Not one of the best, but still fun.

Gussun Oyoyo 2 - 2D Puzzler. think Lemmings meets Tetris.

Idol Janshi Suchi Pai Special - Mahjong. Probably one of my favorites for Saturn. Obviously I'd only recommend this to fans of Mahjong in general.

Image Fight/XMultiply - 2D Vert/Hori Shooters. Ports of Image fight and X Multiply. Image Fight is a standard vert shooter. The real joy here is Xmultiply, an R-Type like Horizontal shooter. Your ship can get these tentacles. Lots of fun.

Jikkyou Osyaberi Parodius -Forever With Me- -2D Hori Shooter. AKA Chatting Parodius. Gradius parody from Konami. this games gimmick is running commentary from an excited Japanese man.

Keio Yuugekitai: Katsugekihen - 2D Platformer. Sequel to Keio's Fly Squadron(Sega CD) only it is a platformer as opposed to shooter. One of the best on the system.

Kingdom Grandprix - 2D Vert Shooter/racer. A mix of Shooting and racing.

Konami Antiques MSX Collection - Collection of 30 MSX games. Nice variety of games though some of the arcade ports aren't too good.

Kururin Pa - Falling Piece Puzzler. Connect the fuses to the bombs and then light them.

Kyuutenkai Tecnosoft Fantasic Pinball - Fantasy themed Pinball.

Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town - Number Based logic puzzles(Nonograms). Think Mario's Picross. Shade in squares on a grid to form pictures. Tons of puzzles with difficulty ranging from easy to dificult.

Metal Slug - 2D sidescrolling action. Requires the RAM cart. Faitful port of the arcade classic. Goes for a fair amount, but it beats paying $1,500 for the AES version.

Monster Slider - Monster based falling Piece Puzzler. You can tilt the bottom of the playing field toslide blocks around.

Nazomakaimura Incredible Toons - Construc crazy contraptions with a Ghost's N Goblins theme. Similar to Impossible Machine.

Necronomicon - One of, if not the, best pinball titles ever made.

Nekketsu Oyako - Mediocre beat em up. Not the best game, but can still be fun for fans of the genre.

NOON - Battle Puzzle. Can be confusing at first, but a lot of fun when you learn how to play. Sort of a mix between Bomberman and a puzzle game. Up to four players.

Parodius Deluxe Pack - 2D Hori Shooters. Collection of two early Parodius games.

Pastel Muses - 2D Puzzle. Take Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move, turn it on it's side and add in some musical elements and you get Pastel Muses.

Popoitto Hebereke - 2D Falling Piece Puzzle. Mediocre Dr. Mario clone. Worth a look if cheap enough.

Prikura Daisakusen - 2D Isometric Action/Shooter. Three selectable characters.

Princess Crown - 2D Action RPG. Some of the most beautiful 2D ever. Fighting system remeniscent of Street Fighter. Language can be overwhelming, but it's still worth a look imo.

Radiant Silvergun - Vert Shooter from Treasure. Expensive and overrated IMO, but a lot of people love it.

Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus - Vert/Hori Shooters. Collection of Salamander, Salsmander 2 and Life Force.

Sega Ages: Mickey & Donald - 2D Platformers. Collection of Castle of Illusion and Quackshot.

Sega Memorial Selection Vol 1 - Classic Arcade Comp. 6 vintage Sega games. Quality of games is subjective.

Sega Memorial Selection Vol 2 - See above.

Sonic Wings Special - 2D Vert shooter. Remix of the Sonic Wings/Aero Fighters games.

Soukyugurentai - 3D Vert Shooter.

Sound Qube - Odd, hard to learn sound based puzzle game.

Strikers 1945 - 2D Vert Shooter from Psikyo.

Super Tempo - 2D platformer sequel to Tempo(32X.) Amazingly smooth animation and probably my favorite platformer on the system.

Techno Motor - Music creation. Not for everyone. Basically a music creation tool.

Tenchi Wo Karau II - 2D Beat em up from Capcom. AKA. Warriors of Fate 2.

Thunder Storm & Road Blaster - FMV games. Ports of two classic FMV games realeased previously in Arcades and on Sega CD. Road Blaster is known as Road Avenger in the Us. Sadly the awesome vocal intro from the Sega Cd is not present here.

Time Gal & Ninja Hayate - Another collection of FMV games. Again, both titles saw release in arcades and on Sega Cd. Ninja Hayate was known as Revenge of the Ninja in the Us.

Tryrush Deppy - 2D platformer starring a Taxi cab.

Wachenroder - Linear Steam Punk Strategy RPG. Full translation available at Gamefaqs. thanks to it's linear nature, playing with the translation is easy as pie.

Whizz - Isometric platformer. Port of the SNES game with added FMV. Not the best, but fun nonetheless.

Willy Wombat - 3D Isometric platformer. Voice acting is in English so importing is a snap.

World Heroes Perfect - Ok port of the arcade 2D Fighter.

Xmen Vs Street Fighter - 2D Tag Team Fighter. Requires 4mb Ram cart. Much better than the lame Playstation version.
