This is true. We held the first ever West Virginia digitalpress meetup thing this past Friday night. Read on for this heartwarming and touching story. It will be like you were there. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and every other storytelling cliché. It's long too, but it's a story. And stories are long.

But anyway, onward:

Firstly, we had 100% attendance by those invited! Impressive, no? Here's how it went down.

bigdaddychester, a fellow WV'er and DP'er dropped me a PM a few weeks ago, and as it turns out, we live about 15 minutes away from each other. After a little back and forth, we set the meetup for Friday evening down at the mall. Grab a bite to eat, play some games in the arcade, swing through the game stores, and end up behind Gamestop to round out the evening.

I'm sure bigdaddychester will post his thoughts and notes, but here's how I recall it.

I got there first. Since I'm usually not the first person anywhere I'm supposed to go, I thought I missed bdc since I was running a few minutes late. However, bdc did show up, and with that, I can now proudly say that I was early for something! After the standard introductions, we made a beeline for Chic-Fil-A, because we were both starving.

After chowing down and discussing various things, we headed for the arcade. Watched some DDR'ers, and then heard the Carnevil machine calling. Strange how we both really like that game. Anyway, we begain stomping the Carnevil machine into submission (and managed to break it in the process). A few bucks later, and Carnevil finally said uncle, as we beat it like it's never been beaten. And apparently that was indeed the case, because the machine froze up on the end game screen, and remained frozen for over 24 hours. I returned to the mall the next day, and happened to be in the arcade when it unfroze. I tried to play the game (as there were a ton of credits.. guess people put in a bunch of coins while it was frozen) , but the machine was running at about 1 fps, and was virtually unplayable. So much for that.

Back from the rabbit trail, we swung through Babbages and EB.. bdc picked up a game for his GBA, and I made the lousy attempt to save some money by not buying anything. After the mall, we drove a lap around behind the Gamestop to check the dumpster. As we were driving past, we noticed that it was locked. What bad luck. After that setback, we made a trip through Target to check their clearance deals, but there wasn't much of anything great there either.

At some point however, we decided to return to the Gamestop dumpster, and it's a good thing, because that's where we had perhaps the most fun of the evening. Using our stealth ninja technique, bdc drove right up to the dumpster and parked in front of it. We got out and our fears were confirmed. It was indeed locked. So, using our problem solving skills, we walked around to the back and opened the other side of the dumpster which had no way of being locked. I played the part of the watchman by standing by the car while bdc went through the dumpster. Here are the results:

Bunch o' stuff, and pretty good for either of our first diving trip ever. Anyway, that rounded out the evening, and the first ever West Virginia digitalpress meetup thing!

My notes:

- bdc is one of the nicest and coolest guys I've ever met. Glad we got to hook up, so thanks for that DP! I'm sure many of you have dealt with him in trades and so forth, and you couldn't be dealing with a cooler guy.

- I never knew you could screw up an arcade machine by beating it, but now I do.

- Dumpster diving is addictive. We've already planned on some more.

- We're also going to have to do a whole West Virginia meetup thing once a year or something. It was great fun with just the two of us. I'm sure getting everyone together would be a blast. We would have went for something this time, but we just got together since we live so close.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but we had a great time, and probably wouldn't have ever met if not for DP. I encourage everyone to plan some kind of meetup with a group of people from the board if you haven't already. It's well worth it and will be some of the most fun you will have.

Excellent! Another pocket of resistance to the DP Classic Gaming Commandos. Establish base in WV and dial in for further instruction!

Thanks for sharing the story. It's always fun to hook up with forum members in "real life".

My official political release:
I can neither confirm nor deny these allegations, all I know is that if there were an Evil Carnival in town, there will be some dead clowns! LOL

I was running a bit behind, as it seemed all I did was mow grass all day Friday. We absolutely had a blast though. It was as he said. That simple. We walked around the mall a bit checked out a few game stores. I picked up the Activision Anthology (and a pair of shoes) at babbages. The arcade was a happening place for once, most times when I see it there's hardly anyone there.

I wasn't sure about the dumpster diving. I had staked this one out a few days before just to make sure we had the right one. It was a fairly small haul although there were a lot of empty boxes, but we were hopefull of what we would find. BTW, I'm glad I took that stealth ninja technique class at tech school  We'll definitely be hitting this one on a weekly basis

Anyway, as downfall stated, we would like to have another gathering with some of our fellow WV gamers (and/or some of our Southern OH, Eastern KY, or anyone) In the meantime, we will continue to pillage and wreak havoc, as ordered. Muhahaha
