View Full Version : Gamecube cd problems

I was given a gamecube this past week. The problem with it is that after a few minutes of reading the discs it says it cant read the dic. I've fixed laser gains in a few DC's with this sort of thing and was wondering if its the same sort of deal. If anyone knows about this problem like if it's just a quarter turn of a screw like on the DC, let me know cuz I'm hoping that I'm getting a free GameCube here, not a fatal one!:)

It is, Counter clockwise. It's on the underside of the PCB the laser assembly is mounted on. Usually a decrease of about 200. That's about a 16th of a turn, and it's easier with a proper pot trimmer. Normal resistence range is between 500 and 200 on the meter. Adjust a smidge, and test. Do no more than necessary. Too far, and it's all over. It seems to fix DRE in 3 of 4 faulty Cubes.

They have them at RatShack. A little black rod, with it's ends made to make fine adjustments to tiny pots. Three in a pack for $5.99 here in Canada.

try messuring the coils on the laser itself to se if they are ok, normal value is about 4,5 Ohm less then 3 = REALLY REALLY BAD(short)
