Hypothetically speaking could you substitute the old pioneer laserdisk player in the dragons lair/spaceace cabs with a dvd player? I dont think that the new released dvds could work for the game but could a dvd that has been burned from the original laserdisk work? Hope this question makes sense. Any thoughts?

You can do ANYTHING if you have enough time, skill, and duct tape ;D

However - my guess is no, unless you don't mind messing around with a LOT of wiring and trying to get wire to touch contacts on the remote (or digging up the DVD player to get some wires leading directly into it) and having a game that plays somewhat differently. If you had a high end DVD player with something like an RS232 port (or some sort of standard interface) things would be much, much easier and that's probably the only setup that you could feasibly work with. Even so you're looking at a mess of wiring and needing some other specialized components to get the joystick signals into that interface port @_@

In addition to the mechanical aspect of things that Ed mentions, you'd have to program something to make the game "talk" to the DVD player in order to seek to the correct scenes.

Actually.. I think it IS possible, but I'm not really sure. Maybe you outta ask the guys at the Dragons Lair Project's boards. Someone there might have a better idea...
