Well I really think Sonic looks wrong. He looks too mad. Sonic's image was always that he keeps his cool...

I like it on the whole, as I said before.

I do agree that Sonic does look a little bit on the angry side. I don't think it ruins the art, but it is a bit jarring.

Other than that, it's good. It could maybe use a little bit more shading and detail, but I assume that'll be done for the final cover.

I think Sonic looks fine....does noone remember how angry he looked in most of the Sonic CD anime scenes? ;)

Yeah, it did remind me of the Sonic CD anime intro. But that isn't really the Sonic most people think of. The "classic Sonic" pose I associate with his heyday on the Genesis is him smiling with his finger waving. It was the Sonic 1 cover art, but it was all over the place in ads and magazines too.

Maybe he needs a beer? Can anyone hook a poor hedgehog up? LOL

Nah... Sonic doesn't need to be drunk.

After looking at it again, I think he looks angry because of the teeth. Traditionally, he's been drawn without teeth. That's a pretty common trait for Japanese comic/anime characters.

Sonic looks like he got punched in the mouth or something... Aside from the odd-looking mouth though, the rest looks great!

Sonic looks like something out of a freakish nightmare seen through really twisted carnival glass, but it don't bother me as I never did like the damn rodent.

I've always thought that in his games, Sonic looks more determined and focused than angry. He does, however, look quite pissed on that cover. I like the idea but he shouldn't be so hostile-looking.

I like the layout and design, but, and I'm fully prepared to take flame for this, but I'm not overally taken by the art itself. The art on the first issue cover was pretty good, but this is pretty rough. Then again, maybe this is just a mock-up thumbnail and not the finished product and I'm out of line.

Are you using one regular artist or a rotating series of artists?

I believe it's same guy (Jason Bruce) doing cover art and design for the first two issues.

I'm not sure how he and the others working at Manci feel, but I personally welcome suggestions and comments. I know a lot of people appreciate the whole concept of a retro gaming mag a lot, but we also need people to tell us how to improve. Yeah, sometimes it can take a while to feel comfortable saying, "I really love what you're doing but maybe you can do this or that better." But that's really, really critical to make this thing a success.

So... no flames here. :) I think so long as people make their comments in a respectful manner we'll listen.

Well, and as it's been stated before, remember that it's a proto-type. The original cover went through some major changes before it was decided on which one to go with...and then it went through changes even after that.

I, personally, think it's looks fine...but it could very well change by the end of the month...

I don't like it at all!

It looks really amateurish. Nowhere near the quality of the Pitfall Harry first issue artwork.

That's my two zenny. You asked!

wow. I guess you said it. I was going for the same idea, but I was trying to be a little nicer about it. Again, though, it could look amateurish because its a mock-up thumbnail. Does the artist post here? I'd like to get his take.

Nicer? I'm not trying to be unkind, I just don't mince words. If I were to tap dance around it then it might look like there's *something* about it I like, and in all honesty there isn't. I'd re-do it.

Look, remember when PSM used to show the evolution of their cover art? Lots of times the first draft was really awful, and they'd acknowlege that as they moved into the redesign or second draft. I don't know who the artist is, and I hope he or she is not offended - but I'd work on it for that second draft.

Maybe Manci Games can employ that concept that PSM used. Then I can be the complete bastard in the story of how the final art came to be :)

Keep up the great work, folks.

Overall the picture looks ok. Something just doesnt look right about it though :hmm: Maybe I just cant picture Sonic with all of the other characters in the background ?

I don't like it much. I never liked sonic much. This picture looks like his arm is coming out of his mouth, like he is smoking it. Also the anger management part, I think if you want an angry character on the cover how about the ninja turtles? They look better angry.

It's kind of hard for me to tell because the image is so small -- is there a bigger view of it that I'm missing?

The Pitfall cover looks llike that's an actual professional Pitfall Harry graphic, while the Sonic one looks like a fan drawn cover. That's the biggest difference I see.

Go to the third page of the "about" section, and in the bottom, right hand corner there is a thumb for the second issue's art. Click on it for a larger, pdf version...

In my opinion, it's not as good as the first issue cover. It seems more 'fanzine'ish than the first one.

But it's a damn sight better than anything I could draw. those who can't 'do', criticize. LOL
