I have a deal that went sour and need some DP advice. I will not reveal the name of the other DP member.

I recently made a deal with another DP member where he purchased a Map to Dragon Warrior 2. As we finalized the deal he PMed me a question if the map was the only map made for this game. Below is my reply:

Off hand I am not sure if DWII came with more than one foldout document. Maybe look through some closed ebay auctions to see if people have sold a complete DW II which may list out all the contents of a complete game.

The payment was made, I shipped the next day and he emailed me that he received the item and he thanks ed me for the transaction.

Here is where it gets sour

Yesterday I visited a gamestop and bought some old NES games from their big sale. I found a Dragon Warrior 2 game. I decided to sell it on ebay and remembered I had a loose box to the game. When I opened the box I found 2 Dragon Warrior 2 maps. So last night I listed all the items on ebay.

Today I received a PM and an email from the person I made the original deal with. He is calling me a liar and that I blatantly ripped him off and that I told him that this was the only DW2 map and now his game is complete.

I never told him that it was the only map and I said I was not sure.

I admit I am a little disorganized with my inventory in my basement but that certainly does not make me a thief or a liar.

He also wants me to refund him his money.

what do you guys think ?

Looks to me like you are in the clear on this one dude. You told him you were not sure if there was more than 1 fold out document and that looks pretty clear to me there.

You were honest and up front with your sale (selling 1 and only 1 dw2 map) and you said before hand you didn't know.

I don't see how this is your problem because they didn't bother doing the extra research.

Tough call, I would send him the other map. Unlist the item off ebay, send map (free of charge), then relist item on ebay(minus second map). It seems like the right thing to do. Also direct him to this thread so he can see your plea/argument.

I would have him send back the map and refund the money. Even though you are in the clear, it isn't worth the bad feelings. Especially with another DP member. I offer the same with ebay auctions. If they really have a problem with an item, I just get the item back and refund the money less shipping costs. That way they know you were not trying to screw them.

Dustin,
I can't believe you made our problem public. Sheesh, this is why I sent a PM. How about you post those comments you made via PM about my mother? :D :D

Seriously tho, is this other DP member a noob? I think it behooves the regs to be more generous to the noobs. If not, I think it's the responsibility of the buyer to know what he's attempting to buy.

I do not agree with sending him something for free. The original deal was not for all DW2 maps. It was for the one item he was interested in. I would not of sold both maps for the price we negoiated. To me giving him something for free is NOT an option.

Best option: Tell him "It was an honest mistake. Honestly didn't know until I found a complete set m'self. If you want your money back, send back the map. No harm, no foul. If you wish to keep the map you have, I'll send you a few bucks for your trouble. But if you want a refund AND to keep the map, ain't gonna happen. If you wish this other map, send me ($XX) and it's yours. (Make sure $XX is considerably less than what it goes for, to keep the peace.)"

It was an error on everyone's part, but concessions need to be made so your vendor/seller rep doesn't get damaged. But you shouldn't roll over either. I'm sure there's a good "in-between" place you two can agree on.

Point well taken...offer him a decent price on the second one possibly? Maybe give him his money back...after receiving back the map? Like I said tough call...people are NEVER satisfied.

Send this person, though PM, a link to this topic. That may lead to a better resolution.

Just refund his money if he wants to do that.

I can understand the person being somewhat bitter but to ask for a refund or to want the other map for free or anything near that....that's just insane. You made a deal for a map and that was all the deal was for. You didn't overshoot it, sounds like he didn't do his own research and maybe he can learn from this experience...

Screw that!

I've made bad purchases. I bought something thinking it was worth more, but did I go back to the dealer, and say hey, you ripped me off!

Of course not. If the guy made a purchase and it bit him in the ass cause he thought it was worth more, tough titty.

Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches, and the fact that this guy blames YOU for HIS lack of knowledge is just ridiculous. He needs to learn a lesson I say.

You were up front with what you were offering, and he bought it. I don't see the problem. Suck it up.

Okay, I don't see the problem AT ALL. You were selling 1 map, you sold it as 1 map, and it was paid for as 1 map. I don't see how 1 map translates into "the entire contents of the box minus the cart". He paid for 1 map and received 1 map, tell him to find someone else for business in the future.

Seller answered the buyer's question honestly. Buyer should have done more homework if he was concerned, or he could have passed on the deal entirely.

Buyer also could have refrained from the name calling - nothing will kill a chance at a refund faster than that. Perhaps if buyer had approached the seller in a more polite way, seller would have been happy to refund the money minus his shipping costs.

The buyer felt that he/she was getting a good deal at the time and instead of calling the seller a liar ought to learn from the experience, ie, address any and all concerns before the deal is made.

IMO, seller owes the buyer nothing; buyer owes the seller an apology. :)

My two zenny.

thanks everyone I appreciate everyones feedback on this issue. I just wanted to be sure I was not in the wrong and it appears everyone agrees I was honest and followed through on the agreed deal with the buyer

You are completely in the right. You did nothing wrong. You followed through on your end of the deal to a "T."

The buyer deserves nothing more, certainly not a return. If he/she misunderstood you, that is his/her problem.

It seems to me you were very clear in what you were selling and in no way insinuated you were giving the buyer any more than that.

You admitted that you had no idea if it came originally with anything else. Since he still chose to buy thereafter, I'd almost be tempted to tell him/herwhere to put that map. It was his/her fault entirely, plain and simple.
