The Underdogs site uses the term freelancer for games where the user have freedom to do what he wants to do or to go where he wants to go.

Games like: Daggerfall, Elite, Starflight, Civilization, Master of Orion and others.

Starfligth is one of the best ones for me. The mood of the game and the possibilities are awesome. You wonder how they cramed so many goodness into so little computer space. Civilization as a simulator can entertain you forever. the concept is so good that the new iterations of it are basicaly the same game but with only graphical changes and more options. And it is still very addictive. You can say the same things about the first two MOO games (still didn't played the 3rd one)

Besides the games I mentioned what are the others with this feature?

I think this thread could be a good place to tell about your own experiences with this kind of game and make some suggestions to fellow gamers who love this freedom of choice.

My favorite game of all time is a freelancer: Pirates! (or Pirates! Gold)

Microsoft's Freelancer was pretty good, though not at all the massive game it was supposed to be. And it had multiplayer!
