I just grabbed a copy off eBay, and if you were to consider that I don't have the PS2 Gradius 3/4 (looking for it, though), is Gradius 3 still worth keeping sealed? Or is it really easy to come by in that state?

Thanks. And for what it's worth, I'm leaning towards keeping it sealed. Just because.

I dunno about sealed, but loose it's pretty dirt common. I doubt it's going to be worth a ton sealed, but you can at least find a copy to play for next to nothing if you choose to go that route.

If it's dirt common loose, then why not get a loose (or cheap complete) copy along with this one? As for games that are dirt common opened but worth a lot sealed...I've seen folks pay upwards of $90 for the original NES Castlevania games and similar prices for Super Metroid (and a little bird told me that somebody bought Metroid ][ sealed for $80, is that crazy or what?). I haven't met the Gradius fanbase but there might be folks out there who would do the same for that game.

'sides, sealed games are nice :)

Yeah, it's purdy.

It seems a lot of cheap loose games sell for more complete or sealed. Especially SM. Loose copies, 5 bucks. CIB, 30 minimum.

And don't even get me started about all the bidding wars on Dracula X... *shudder*

The SNES version is more enjoyable than the too-hard PS2 / arcade version, FWIW.

Doesn't the PS2 have options (ha, pun) to change settings and stuff?

Yeah, but it still feels like a very different, harder game IMO. Not as fun.

PS2 III also has a crappy 3D stage in which you have to avoid running into the walls of a tunnel. I'm serious when I say crappy. ;)

Sounds like the penalty level (for a too-low hit ratio) I just read about in Irem's Image Fight...

What's important to keep in mind that Gradius III included in the PS2 version is a EXACT PORT of the arcade version! Which I don't think was released in the States. That's why they also have a slow down option, cause the PS2 processor is much faster then the arcade processor.

What we got with the SNES was a re-programed version, with that stage removed and the difficulty toned down for the 'stupid Americans'. ;)

i think the SNES version is also easier because the system would slow down when there were too many sprites on the screen. a common problem with almost every SNES shooter

Buy another one if you want to play it. Sealed it is uncommon and more collectable, but opened in any way it loses a lot of it's value.

Alright, from what I can tell it's worth keeping sealed but also worth grabbing a play copy since it's different from the PS2/Arcade versions. Thanks, everyone.
