I'm not sure those were strange or pirated...are you sure it was Super Mario bros. or just plain Mario Bros? I know that Atari did at some point release some games for PCs, and Ninja Gaiden also came out for home computers as well.

A lot of the disk images I see on the internet are pirated. CRACKED BY THE SUPAR HA><0RZ! ****phear our l33t skillz****

Unfortunately, due to the .d64 files that most C-64 emulators use, it's near impossible to play the legitimate versions of some games (Since the .d64 file can't handle most of the copy protection methods), so we're forced to suffer through the crack intros.

Super Mario Bros. for the C-64 was really "The Great Gianna Sisters" with some sprites and text changes (and an NTSC fix, it was a PAL game). Many, many more people had the hacked version rather than the real Sisters game (Gianna Sisters was a Euro-only release). They took the sprites right out of the Atarisoft Mario Bros. conversion for the 64. As for Ninja Gaiden I dont remember that one being on the C-64 but it wouldnt surprise me if it was. I think I remember playing it on the Amiga but I might be remembering the 64 version.
