Hi,
I dont know if anyone here can help, but I'm wondering about Megadrive cart variations.

For example, I have 2 copies of "Desert Strike"....both apparently identical, but the wording on the back of the 2 carts is a different style on each, and one says "made in US" and the other says "made in Taiwan".

Does this make them 2 seperate games from a collecting point of view? Should I hang on to both of them ?

Similar question with "Pete Sampras tennis"... I have 2 copies, 1 is a J cart and one is normal...again should I hang on to both.

Should I keep multiple copies of a game that has just minor differences?

Whether or not to hang on to variations is entirely a matter of personal taste, but I imagine the vast majority of collectors wouldn't care about the US/Taiwan-made Desert Strike. The vast majority of EA Megadrive games use identical carts to the Genesis release anyway.

The J-cart/non-J-cart Pate Sampras Tennis is slightly more interesting - Both Micro Machines 2 and Pete Sampras Tennis were originally released on standard Codemasters carts, but later re-issued on J-carts. The original versions are slightly harder to find, but they're all pretty common.
If you have the box for both, could you check and see if the part numbers on the spines are different? Ta!

Hi,

Pete Sampras spine numbers:

J cart: 120022
Non J cart: 120024

Dunno why the J cart version has a lower number if it's later?

Cheers!
It's only the first 5 digits that would increase for later games - the last digit on the part# of almost all 3rd Party games is '6' while the Codemasters games tend to swap theirs around a bit..
