Why do people get their hands on a game and call it rare?Case in point:Ice Hockey, rare nes cart(ebay)...These people have no idea what is going on and I would like to peruse their collection, play their little minds and suck their greedy, uninformed and non gaming life outta them..Can I get a AMEN?

As I learned on the first day I surfed eBay. rare means nothing there. It's true that a lot of sellers say that a game is rare to jack up the price, but sometimes the seller truly has no idea about what is rare and what isn't. Try to remember that not all sellers have knowledge of video game stuff, like for example, parents who don't play video games and sell their kid's old NES stuff on eBay after they move out for college. Also, those parents could be from a small town, and don't normally look for places that sell NES games, so might not have seen any NES games except for the one or two that pop up on a rare case at garage sales or a local thrift store.

And of course, there's that thread posted here last week by a guy who saw a gold Zelda cart at a Goodwill for $34.99, and a person working there told them it cost that much because it was rare. LOL

Another reason why DP is here. :D

Yeah basically a mix of stupidity and greed, although everyone has to do it for everything they sell now otherwise people dont look at your auctions. Ive seen it myself

Soinc CD (not RARE in title) ended at £10.50 (I won it)

Sonic CD (RARE in title) ended nearer £20

Maybe it was just co-incidence but i think its because more people ignore something that doesnt say rare (even if it is exactly the same), dont suppose you can blame sellers if this works though.

That's weird, as I won't even look at an auction that says rare anywhere in the title. If I find it in the description....It almost drives me to the back button. Same with LIKE NEW!! or L. New!......fags LOL

"Like new" is useful if the seller is actually being honest about it. I'm anal about the condition of my collectibles, and I'll pay more for something described as "like new". If turns out to be crappy and beat-up, I sure as hell will leave neutral feedback over it (which I've only done once so far when someone showed an item in the box and said it was new, and it arrived loose and NOT new. The guy left a neutral too saying I didn't read the description properly or something just to get "feedback revenge", jerkoff...).

As for rare... I'm not about to stoop so low as to call something rare when I KNOW that it's as common as dirt, even if it would bring in more money. However, I know some honest sellers who DO sell very rare items, so I got no problem with them pointing out that fact.
