WTF?

Wow..pretty much MIB too. It's stuff like this that causes me to pay huge Rinkya fees. :D

A bit more info (in Japanese):

http://aizuma.hp.infoseek.co.jp/pv/pv1000.htm

The PV-1000 is one of many consoles released in Japan around 83-84. Most of them faded once the Famicom claimed dominance of the market. Pretty much every major electronics company in Japan tried to grab a piece of the pie.

Casio's other main claim to fame in the gaming world was the later Casio Loopy: the only game machine (that I know of) marketed exclusively to girls.

i want one!

back the real world i want to see some screenshots, most of those titles were released on US systems, i wonder if its basicly a clone of one of them?

anybody got some screen shots?

The machine looks sort of like a Genesis.
Were all the games original or were there any arcade ports?

According to the internet, it's Z-80 based...so given the processor, and the year released, I think it's safe to assume it's based somewhat on the MSX standard, making the games similar to ColecoVision/SG-1000/MSX-1 quality most likely.

Neat set with all those rockin' arcade titles. I believe I have a few games for that system. Not entirely sure, but it may also be Casio Loopy compatible.

Those systems are cool, but not as valuable as some of the better manus for video games. Loose is a great seller- I would love to see this stuff on eBay US. He does set high mins, but then again, Japan isn't really a flea market place, and prices (as I understand them) are relatively high everywhere. If I go there, I will travel as far as I must to make it to a real flea market.

For some reason I want to shout "Loopy!" but that'd make me silly (at least more so than I currently am). The PV-1000 name is probably only familiar to me 'cuz Casio made units later with the same prefix.

I'll have to see about pickin' up one of these sometime; $240 is NICE for anything that old with boxes.

(Maybe I've read about this before after all...gotta love these almost-completely-right sites like Dark Watcher's and Assembler :)

Probably something like the MSX and I wouldn't be surprised if it edges out Sega's SC-1000/SG-3000 machines.

Here's a cheaper/smaller/less minty one if anyone's interested:

That thing is as mint as it can get. It kind of looks like a clone to me, but it obviously isn't if it has its own carts. All I know is that I want that Pooyan cart.

Wow, this is pretty cool... it's not often that I find out about a console that I never knew existed!

Given that there is supposedly a computer version of this called the the PV-2000 (which I would assume would be MSX compatible, since that seems to be the style in early-80's Japan), it would be interesting to see how much work it would be to port MSX games to PV-1000 cartridges.

The PV-2000 was "MSX-like," but most emphatically NOT an MSX - the Casio produced MSX units with a PV prefix were the PV-7 and PV-16, maybe some others. Here's the PV-2000 and some pictures (http://www.homecomputer.de/pages/f_info.html?Casio_PV-2000.html). It does have a Z-80 processor and is from 1983 so the mistake is quite undestandable.

This page has screenshots (http://www.max.hi-ho.ne.jp/morymory/galaga/another/ano_isyoku/ano_isyoku.html) of various versions of Galaga playing; the PV-2000 is at the bottom of the screen but unfortunately there's no picture! It does show how the SG-1000 was roughly similar to a Sinclair Spectrum as far as amount of colors onscreen goes.

I stand corrected! That's too bad... it would be cool to see a console version of the MSX. Oh well, there's always the ColecoVision I guess.

WTF?!? Since when does C-64 Galaga look THAT shitty!? @_@ Is that just something someone wrote in Basic, or what?

There's the Korean (er, Samsung..?) Zemmix, which is exactly that. Quite hard to find, too, it seems; if you want one I'd think the Hong Kong online stores would be the most likely place to find them. I don't know why you'd really need one, though, since MSX computers are usually the size of a standard keyboard and plug into a NTSC television/maybe a monitor (don't have any plugs for my own unit but I think the connectors are pretty standard).

Daewoo Zemmix info:

http://assembler.roarvgm.com/Zemmix/zemmix.html

Not a bad looking little machine at all -- it's NTSC and has selectable voltage (110/220).

Yup, I knew somebody was gonna call me on the manufacturer :P

(To my credit, I remembered it when looking at the main Forum view just a few seconds ago :L )

Daewoo make a lot of Apex-style budget electronics (DVD players, TVs, etc). That's how I remember their name!

Is there a way to view Yahoo Japan Auctions in english?
I would be interested in browsing and bidding.

You can use Altavista's Babelfish to translate pages, but for some reason it seems to not be working for the last few days. And to bid on Japanese auctions, you either need a Japanese credit card, or use a bidding service like Rinkya or Celga.

They look like they're "parallel" to the ColecoVision or MSX machines.

Was that Super Pac-Man? The image is too small for me to make out, even at full size.

That Galaga isn't too impressive. CV Galaxian is much better looking. But isn't that an MSX version?
