Hello, I won an eBay auction for some days for a Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn. The discribtion say, that this is a Promo Version. The CDs are only silver, no Lable. But they are not CD-R's and they are real CDs from SEGA, because there are Logos on the side from the CDs.
I think they are maybe Prototypes, because there is no Lable on the CDs, most Promos I know have a Lable. But maybe someone know more about Saturn Proto or Pomos.

Here some Pictures:
Panzer Dragoon Saga CD1 (http://people.freenet.de/mattyxb/Saturn-PDS-CD1.jpg)
Panzer Dragoon Saga Logo1 (http://people.freenet.de/mattyxb/Saturn-PDS-Logo1.jpg)
Panzer Dragoon Saga Logo2 (http://people.freenet.de/mattyxb/Saturn-PDS-Logo2.jpg)

The Logos are hard to read on the scan, so I write here again, what stand there:
Logo 1: TRADEMARK "SEGA"
Logo 2: PRODUCED BY or UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES, LTD.

On the first Logo the SEGA word looks like official SEGA Logo.

And inside are numbers
CD1: MK-81307E-0016 A 12345
CD2: MK-81307E-0017 A 12345
CD3: MK-81307E-0018 A 12345
CD4: MK-81307E-0019 A 12345

So, who knows what this is? Is this only a Promo Version, or maybe what I think a Prototype Version from this game?

I don't know anything about the Saturn, but if I had to guess, I'd say what you have are the final, production CDs, sent out to the press before having artwork printed on them. Anyone have the game, to compare serial numbers?

I have only the Demo, which is the complete first CD (what I have heard). And this has the same number as the Promo / Proto Version CD1.

PS: Both are PAL Versions (Demo & Promo or Proto), forget to tell.

And count this as Promo or Prototype, when it was sent out to the press before it was finished with lable?

If my guess is right, I wouldn't - by definition - consider that either a "promo" or a "prototype." It's the actual, final game, without artwork on the CDs. I'd just call them "press copies."

...but if it has to be one or the other, it's practically a "promo."

Again, this is if my guess is correct, and my guess makes a hell of a lot of sense. It's silver, so it's not a prototype, and it seems for all the world to be a production Saturn game without artwork. So I'm guessing they burned the CDs, grabbed a few, and sent those off to magazines/stores/whatever while the rest of them went to the printer to have the art put on.

There's a few instances of them around, and yeah, they're generally copies sent to the press for review.

I sold some of these just after Xmas, they came from a guy at Sega Eurpe basically all pal promo discs for shops, distributers etc were like this - they are all final releases not protos as far as i'm aware, the protos came on Saturn CD-r's and are clearly marked.
