Does anyone on here know how to do the atari 2600 AV modifications?
I recently started atari collecting, and the RF output has every problem that made me hate RF in the first place; unreliable picture that sometimes contains "Snow" or diagonal lines running through the screen...Poor audio....I HATE IT!!!
However i'm none too handy with a soldering iron...
Does anyone around these parts do AV mods? how much would you ask to modify an atari? and do you require a 4 or 6 switch? Right now i have a 4 switch, this weekend i am getting a six switch.....
thanks everyone. I need help!

We need a VG forum mod to move this to Restoration and technical.

I can, but I'm in Canada. There are a number of Americans, like FABombjoy on this forum, who have done more of them than I. Perhaps he, or another can be cajoled into helping you out of RF hell.

You shouldn't repost Krazy, it'll just get one of the threads locked. :D

can anybody tell me what the point of a stereo modded 2600 is?

I was wondering the same thing, cs27. Isn't the system only mono anyway, or is there a hack like the NES?

i dont care if its modded stereo or mono..i know it will be false stereo, might be easier to hook it up though..i'm more interested in the VIDEO lead, my main beef with RF hell is the video quality.

A 2600 has two different sound channels, so in that sense the stereo mod
does do true stereo (really great with Turmoil). See here for more info:

There is an s-video adapter board you can buy for $60 from http://www.atari2600.com/
Go to online store: 2600: hardware
That's the best quality solution without soldering the chroma luma mod (in FAQ)
by hand

learn something new every day

but were any titles programmed to make use of the stereo effects? i mean as in adding to the game not just a programming quirk?

at least now i know those really are speaker holes on the heavy sixer, kinda like the old pongs with a built in speaker. now that would be a mod, put actual speakers into a heavy sixer.
