It's slated for release in June, at least that's what the website says. It's a featured demo on the newest PS2 kiosk demo disc. I got the chance to try it the other day, and I found to be rather fun. It's kinda like the game you see at amusement parks where they put a rubber frog on a fulcrum and you hit the device to launch the frog onto a lilly pad/flower, but you usually end up hitting him into the surrounding water.

The PS2 version might be an easier find, since it could be like Magic Pengel--quirky Japanese fun that gets recognized by a major publication, but I'm 95% certain the Cube one will be tough to come by.

Just a friendly heads-up. And check the game out if you get the chance.

Interestingly enough, on the EBgames pre-orders, Ribbit King is only $19.99 on GameCube, but $39.99 on PS2! That makes the choice rather easy :)

I don't get it. Why is this game going to be so rare?

Don't get me wrong, I will end up preordering it, but I am wondering how you guys know that this game will end up so rare.

I saw this game previewed on 'X-Play' (TechTV). It looks very strange . . . at least from western eyes. The graphics look a lot like Animal Crossing. It seems to play like a twist on Golf.

I agree that this game will be rare . . . as it doesn't look to appeal to the baggy pants crowd. Personally . . . I can't wait to try it out. Looks like it will be some wierd fun.

It's a quirky Japanese title. The premise in this one is really the kicker, as it's a type of golf, only a frog is used instead of a ball. Tell me that's going to sell a lot of copies. I played a demo, and I think it's a lot of fun.

Particularly in today's marketplace, which is dominated by sequels, sports titles, and huge RPGs, it's easy for small titles that use unique approaches to be overlooked. Look at REZ and Cubviore. Neat ideas, both are fun, and both are now desirable since many folks overlooked them initially.

I saw it on X-Play as well, just yesterday. For me it's just business as usual because I've seen, played, and own tons of imports WAY fruitier than golf with frogs. However, the fact that this game is actually get a US release intrigues me, and it looks like it has the potential to be pretty fun (I'm not a golf fan, but I do like unrealistic golf games like Kirby's Dream Course). I'll probably pick it up sooner or later. While it will likely become rare, I doubt it'll ever garner the kind of demand that would make it expensive.

golf is fun if it is presented right. i like tiger woods 2k3 alot, and i don't golf, know little to nothing about golf, and frankly am not all that entertained by golf. but this game sounds strange enough to make golf interesting.

It's funny how it's getting easier and easier to spot future rarities as time goes on. You do have your occasional flukes like Animal Crossing, which I didn't expect to do as well as it did.

This game really looks like fun, I don't really like golf but I will grab this one up.

Speakin of Magic Pengel, it is pretty hard to find now isnt it!

Hard to find or not, the game is great fun and I'd definitely recommend picking it up when it comes out. I can't wait to try it out in English.

There is literally an ASSLOAD of these at my local Bigg's. Seriously. There are a LOT of them, and they're $20 apiece. *shrugs*

So it's like a virtual frog hockey? :P

Why do I have the feeling I've read of this before? You have to get the frogs to jump a certain direction or something? I swear I read about that quite a while ago.

Why does this sound like a mash of Frogger, Animal Crossing, and Super Monkey Ball? :hmm:

I actually heard today that Gamestop stores are getting individual demos for this. They're supposedly for "Managers only", I'll try to snag one.

Hell games like Disney sports Basketball for the GC are rare and I predict that games like Tom and Jerry:War of the Whiskers and Spirits and Spells for the GC will be rare in the future as well.

Looks interesting. I keep seeing promos for this at the stores. How much will it be when it comes out? I'd only want to pick it up personally if it were $20 or if my store got one. (I can hide one if I have to. Wait for clearance.)

You might've read about it in coverage of E3 2003. Bandai showed a preliminary version of Ribbit King in its booth to get a feel for whether or not it should bring the game to the States, and the feedback was apparently positive. Surprising, as games this weird usually don't connect with Americans.

It's a cute game, but not a great game. There's too much watching the frogs go through their post-shot antics, and not enough holes (only a few dozen, although there are many point-scoring "paths" to explore in each). It's nowhere near as playable or deep as the latest Tiger Woods. But it's good, clean, goofy fun.

That game is the definition of quirky :o

Maybe I'll pick it up when the price goes down a bit. Things ALWAYS go down before they go up.

That's it, I'm pretty sure now. Thanks for clearing that one up! Heh, I think I'm gonna follow the herd on this one and pass it by. I'm not much of a golfer myself, frogs or not :p

Indeed possible... I can't find the T&J game for GC online (all other formats yes). I can find Spirits and Spells, and Disney Sports Basketball though, however only at one place each, and not the same place.

NB. At online stores etc... not eBay.

I just saw War of the Whiskers the other day at GS. But I think it was the Xbox. I passed it up for no particular reason.
