Hello. I'm a big RPG fan, and I've often heard that the xeno series games among the best ever. I want to get them, but I just have a few questions:

1. Which should I play first, plotline-wise?
2. Can you pause during Xenosaga's loooong cut scenes?

Thanks for your time.

You may as well play Xenogears first. I'm guessing that they're both about equal in price (around $20), so pick up both and play them in "order". :P

Uhm, they are.

Xenosaga is the first chapter, while Xenogears is, like, number 5.

So, you should play Xenosaga first...

Xenogears and Xenosaga aren't related story wise becuase when the xeno series was dropped by Square, Namco had to change a lot of the story line. Tetsuo Takahashi, the creator of the series, had to rewrite a lot of major elements so basically the games are similar at most. They are bothed based in the story universe.

About their order, Xenogears is the 5th chapter in the 6 part series. Square chose to start with that becuase it was the most action packed, think of it as the original Star Wars since that was the 4th in the storyline. Xenosaga: Episode 1 Der Wille Zur Macht is a fresh start in the 6 part series. i beleive monolith plans on making each episode 2 games, not sure though.

Really, although both games are great, xenogears my #1 fav rpg, xenosaga my #3, i'd start off with xenogears to get a taste for the original, you'll be surpised once you get to playing through xenosaga how much stuff is carried over for it being in the same universe.

Anyways, enjoy. ;)

Both games are very good, different in style, but they do have some elements in common with one another. As been said, Xenosaga takes place before Xenogears but I don't see any direct connections between the two -- at least not yet. Xenosaga Part II is due out in Japan this summer, so maybe we'll see it in the States by early next year.

The storylines do intertwine, although rather subtly.

I would suggest playing Xenosaga first so you aren't setting yourself up for a major dissappointment. (read: compaired to Gears, Saga sucks....badly)

Err. No, Saga does not suck, compared to Gears. Saga may not be as good, but it certainly is up there with anything else on the PS2 as of yet. Yes, I consider FFX to be a good game, and Saga is better... Xenosaga is the best RPG on the PS2 as of yet.

Xenogears is hands down my fav rpg right up with ff7(my fav game ever) , play that first, like they said, get a taste for the original, i did like xenosaga but xenogears is still much better, and xenosaga is cheaper, xenogears was still at 49.99 not even a year ago, stayed up there for a while, but its down to 19.99 now as a greatest hits so pick it up
