I need to find out if there is a way to find out what Xbox has the Samsung or even Philips drive in it by looking at the serial number or something on the box. My Xbox is busy dying, and I still have time to exchange it to Bestbuy, but I don't want to end up with another bloody Thomson!!! Anyone know the way to tell from box? Serial numbers or what? Thanks!!

Well..i've had more experience with the other XBOX's and those drives
I believe that the Thompson drives are the only ones that have openings in the tray besides where the drive spindle pops up.

I know what the 3 different drive trays look like, but I need to know which I am gettng BEFORE I get it home!! I need to know at the store, via serial numbers......

If you don't destroy the pot, trying to get the epoxy seal off of the pot.
Thomsons aren't worth tuning IMO.[/quote]
