WooHoo! I just crossed over the 4000 cartridge threshold. For various reasons this'll probably be the last big milestone I reach, so I thought I'd mention it.

Well done. That's a very small club, that's for sure. I know I'm 1400 away myself. :o

If I understand you correctly, it's 4000+ unique carts. It includes 100-200 name/packaging/label variants for the 2600 but not exact duplicates. Also includes cross-platform variants (probably have Frogger on 10 different systems, for example). But it only includes cartridges.

That's crazy. o_O I'd be lucky if I hit 4000 before I turn 50 or 60. :P That's roughly 10 times the size of my current collection. I can hardly fathom such an amount. :P

400...that's still a TON of games. Not literally.

No idea how many I have, personally, don't think I'm there yet.

Wow, congratulations.

You've probably got one of the biggest collections on the boards, and that's saying a lot. :)

You guys got me curious so I did a running tally of what I've got. I'm well over 6500. And I'm only 50% on Saturn and SegaCD, around a quarter on SNES and Genesis, and I have very very little N64, or gameboy. I probably need another 200 NES. I suspect that when I hit 8000 games (not included computer disk software), it will be rather hard to find anything that I don't have. I don't plan to kill myself over Gameboy or N64, and I don't plan to get into PSX at this point.

4000 is pretty high up there, especially if you're a domestics only person. Really, if I excluded import stuff, the tally would be much much lower.

The 4000 figure was just carts, so Saturn, SegaCD, Dreamcast, C64 disks etc weren't included. Back in the original post I said I'd probably never get to 5000 carts. One reason is that for the cartridge systems I care about (basically Genesis & earlier), there aren't that many more I need.

By the time MarioAllStar2600 is a hundred years old (I'll won't be much "younger" myself ;) there'll be what, half a million+ unique games out there to pick up? o_O

im not even in the 2500 cart club! :( i come in just short at 2480...damn...

but that doesnt include label variations...

and only 323 disc games...last count of total games was over 3000...need to quit selling i guess.

that got me thinking about how much ive spent on games so far(not subtracting profit from sold games or including their cost)

add 4 carts to the last post that id forgotten to add...

drumroll.....

$12607.89 @_@

i couldve paid half my remaining mortgage with that! but id much rather have the games i guess, they look so nice in their room...

I'm guessing that I'm around 4500 to 5000, maybe a bit less. If I had sources to collect imports, I gladly would, but my focus is on my domestic stuff for now. Maybe I'll hunt down Ian at CGE and buy some more stuff from him.

@Ianoid: Don't ask about my Motorodeo, It's not for sale. ;) :)

Damn. I know I've spent many thousands on my game stuff, probably have paid too much for some stuff but I like most of what I've got...at least $5K from one year. What's the average price of a game you buy?

qbertandernie
04-27-2004, 11:26 PM
i screwed up, that total is for everything i have thats game related - systems, merchandise, promo stuff, and games...

im actually kind of a cheap bastard and dont buy expensive games. i wait until i see the great games for cheap, then i buy them. i like to search for the games and find them cheap, and only resort to ebay buying when i need to(like when i decide to cave and buy nesters funky bowling and jack bros.).

garage sales and the record exchange have really improved my collection for low $$. the record exchange folks dont have a clue. i got NES flinstones(expensive one, loose) for $5, SNES ogre battle, megaman x2, FF3, ninja gaiden trilogy, secret of mana for $15 each complete, and have only recently spent more than $15 on a used game(32x web of fire). ive been extremely lucky but used to put in the hours to search for games, going on a junk store run over the whole city EVERY DAY. then i got a real job...
i also dont typically buy new games and just got a gamecube for xmas(and dont have ps2 or xbox), so most of my collection is classics that garage sale folks think are worthless(ive actually been given genesis and 5200 systems and games), whereas i think most folks buy the newer system games(which would raise costs significantly).

to answer the question though, id guess the average price i pay is less than $5 per game, with recent purchases raising that a bit. for some reason the past few months ive found a ridiculous amount of 'expensive' SNES games complete.

i dont have web hosting or id upload the excel spreadsheets that have every game and item ive bought broken down by system, how much i paid and whether it has box or instructions and its general condition. id really hoped to get a web site of my own and upload pics so i could show off my gems, but i dont have a clue how to get a website started...

I've deliberately tried to forget how much I've spent but I'd guess it averages ~$3 per game. How is it you know the total to the penny?

Good job all. I am around the 1500 mark right now I would like to hit the 2000 mark soon. I have one that will top all collection forementioned, I have a very good friend that I've bought over $2500 worth of stuff off of, but before he started to sell to everyone he had over 10,000 games and some 70 plus systems, but now he sold down. That my friends is a nice collection. My other question is, what are the top collectors up to now, some like vgb or Joe, Sean Kelly, or one of you big guys?
