Replacing damaged cart labels?

I have quite a few carts I've picked up at yard sales and such that have crappy labels on them. Some are barely identifiable without popping the cart into the console. Does anyone here replace such labels? I've been thinking of doing it but wondering if I should put some indicator on the label to make it known. I'd hate to forget I did that, trade some carts to another collector, then find out they felt ripped off because I didn't tell them...

Any thoughts on the topic?

Yes, taking off the damaged beyond repair labels of some carts and printing up new labels. Replacing labels that are torn or mostly missing.

I would imagine that it would be exceedingly difficult to pull off a convincing counterfeit in the first place. If it's just for personal use, you'd probably have to make them from what you can find online. I haven't seen any online archives of hi-res scans of cart labels that could effectively be used in the creation of replacement labels that would convince anybody that it's the original label.

As far as quality goes, I'm curious as to what some of the popular homebrew cart makers use for their games. I've seen a few that looked really well-done.

Being that, at some point, you'd be manipulating digital images, if you think that you'd easily mistake the phony label for a real one, you could just put a marking on it saying that it's a re-creation or whatnot.

You can get some pretty decent ones from a Copyshop, just give them a Highres-Scan of the Label. That's the most popular way here with Homebrew Carts

I wouldn't bother with it.

1) Since it's not the real deal, I'd imagine you'd upgrade to the real thing if you happened upon another cart. Which then makes the time spent on the replacement label better spent on something else.

2) It would take some work to recreate the label; at this point, goto #1. :)

3) A fake label wouldn't be worth anything to a fellow collector either; again, goto #1.

If we're talking about something like a Glib with a crappy label, then I could see fashioning your own. In this case, you'll probably never see another one and it would be nice to look at a replica label versus a blank cart. :) Here, it might be worth the time to make your own, and you'd definitely remember putting it together.

I guess some high -quality color laser prints on sticky-backed glossy would work. You'd have to probably cut the labels out yourself thoough. Th echallenge would be to find paper thin enough.

Or, you can find the right glue and apply it yourself to non-sticky-backed paper. If your serious about this, I would call some print shops...see who or what they reccomend.
