Today is my 18th b-day and boy did a have a few surprises. First I got an MIB NES with duck hunt and zapper. Then when it couldn't get better I opened up a jewelry box containing a custom leather wrist band thats black with a white Atari symbol. I've been thinking about getting something made like this for a long time, my moms been listening :D

Looks good!

I don't even celebrate birthdays anymore. Having a job and living alone, every day is like Christmas for me! I celebrated Christmas today by getting a Turbo Grafx 16 and a Neo Geo Pocket Color link cable. :D

Happy 18th! Come to Canada sometime and get sloshed. :bday:

Good stuff man, congrats on the B-day and the gifts! What I wouldn't give to be your age knowing what I learned over the years. Well your ahead of the game my friend, your young and already appreciate retro gaming.....
Enjoy these earliy years, don't be afraid to take chances and be yourself!
Cheers man! 8-)

Pretty spiffy mom you got. :) I had a hard enough time just explaining to my parents what new games I wanted. I can just imagine the confusion and panic if I asked them to hunt down retro stuff, haha. Thankfully my boyfriend is just as game and internet savvy as I am, so I get cool presents from him. However, he's lazy and he knows I'm better at getting good deals, so half the time he just gives me a budget to buy whatever I want with. :P

I used to just go to the store and point at what games I wanted, but at Christmas two years ago my mother shocked me. She got me Suikoden 3, because she actually remembered the name from when I was in High School and asked for Suikoden 2. I got the same game from a freind the day earlier. Of course my dumb ass got a refund from the store when I should have just kept it sealed, and sold it a few years down the road when people were clamoring for it like Suikoden 2 now. (which I still have minty fresh as the day it was pressed. Zing!)

That atari band is seriously the cat's ass, man. Have your mom whip one of those up for me, the Atari patch on my hat is falling off. I'll trade for a delicious pan of peanut butter cookies.

There have been many bdays/xmases that ive picked out the games, that I was to get myself. Or on occasion my parents would actually want to get something that I didnt already have and would walk into my local indy store, and either have the employees (They all know me, and are friends) pick out something that I'd like/didn't have, OR just go into my hold box, and go that way. Only rarely do I have a list made up for general useage.

What really sucks is that in the next few weeks the store will be closing for good, It will be a sad day when that happens.

@djbeatmongrel: Happy belated birthday!

I got an NES Action Set for my birthday back in the day. Unfortunately, the only part of that Action Set that I still have is the zapper.

However, I am proud to say I still own the SNES I got for my tenth birthday back in 1993. Had to replace the controllers and the copy of Super Mario World that came with it, since the console itself outlasted those.

And I still own the PS2 that I got for my 18'th birthday. Well, I didn't actually get the console on my 18'th birthday, just a Toys R' Us gift card with an amount good enough to buy it with a couple games. Of course, Toys R' Us were sold out of PS2's quickly on launch day, so it wasn't until about 5 or 6 months later, when more were finally shipped, that I got to enjoy that birthday present! LOL

Other gaming-related stuff I've gotten on birthdays:
NES - Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers
NES - Super Mario 3
SNES - Super Mario All-Stars (Still own the same copy I got in 1994... it's the game that's been with me longer than any other)
N64 - Mario Kart 64 (Still own it)
PS2 - Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus

There might be a couple more. I didn't get a game every year. This year, I'm probably going to ask for $20 towards buying a few games.

My brother got that set from his real dad for christmas one year. I probably still have the Mario/Duck Hunt, RF unit and the controllers but the deck died out long ago and my brother set the orange zapper on fire. Pretty certain it's still somewhere in this house though. LOL

Since I was like 12 I worked odd jobs to get what I wanted it was really rare when my parents bought me a game and when they did It was usually ok we are gonna buy you this game but dont be asking for us to buy you another one anytime soon. Well usually when my birthday came along my mom would always cook me something special that she would hardly ever cook for that occasion and I got the bland baked cake to go with that 2. Well with the money I did earn I would always just buy myself a present HOW SAD HUH......LOL.... I would even wrap it myself I recall one birthday I gave myself contra for the Nes, oh boy Happy times. Congrats on your 18th birthday may you have many many more to come.

Thanks
