Anybody buy this one yet? I don't think I'll buy it unless the price drops significantly, BUT there's a "history of Defender" mention on the back. Curious as to what's going on in that segment...

I have not played this one yet either but I saw the commercial and was pretty impressed with what I saw. I will also wait until the price drops a little or buy it used somewhere down the line.

Yeah, I wonder about the new Defender too. I find the design of the game interesting (even though Eugene Jarvis has absolutely nothing to do with the project).

Has anyone seen any review of the game yet? Hopefully, it will be more knowledgeable than the person from Play who wrote about "Midway bringing back one of Atari's classics" (I'm paraphrasing here). Either that person only played the Atari 2600 version or he/she has absolutely no knowledge of videogame history, especially not of Atari or Williams.

We played it a bit at E3 - I wasn't impressed, but to be fair -- the version that's in stores now looks *much* more complete than the E3 build, hence the curiosity :)

My impression of the finished version (which I haven't played) is that it's mainly a use of the name - I don't see the frenzied panic in the new version that the original has in droves.

I can't imagine how they could keep the pace now that it's in 3D. It looks like they slowed it down a bit but kept the idea of multiple weapons & enemy craft, and the abduction and saving of humanoids.

My curiosity is piqued, too. What systems is this game for? I'd probably rent this one and buy it cheap later.

I found this IGN.com article previewing the PS2 Defender if this helps any:

I think it's either for all three consoles, or for the Gamecube and Xbox (I'm not sure whether the PS2 is covered or not).

I wonder if the original game (or Stargate, for a matter of fact) will be included in the game, either as an unlockable or a direct bonus?

Wow, that is VERY unfortunate timing with your post, Lady Jaye. ;)

I just popped the link to the PS2 preview since it was easiest.

Well, I guess we have the answer as to which consoles will have the Defender game. 8)
