View Full Version : So Who's Picking Up La Pucelle: Tactics?

My initial thought was BUY BUY BUY, simply because I loved the plot and humor in Disgaea - but then I remembered that I only liked the gameplay to a certain extent. It's too deep for me. Like many gamer's on this board, I have way too many games and not enough time...so a really deep, long, invovling game is very difficult for me to finish.

I still probably will pick it up. We'll see. Anyone else's thoughts?

I totally agree with You StrychNiNE. Disgaea was a great game, I've played through it more than once, but it is almost too deep for me to fully enjoy it. I keep thinking that I should be devoting more time to some other parts of my collection. I'll most likely pick up La Pucelle, but doubt I'll finish it anytime before Christmas ;)

I just started Disgaea since I reserved La Pucille and let me tell you, I'm kicking myself for not having started it sooner. I can't wait for La Pucille myself and will probably start it right after I beat Disgaea, and then top it off with FFTactics and then overload on Tactics games and go on a 4 month 2D fighter binge.

...yeah.

*jumps up and with her arm stretch into the air wiggling her fingers*

Oooh! I am! I am!

LOL

But then... I've been drooling over this game since it came out in Japan and had no chance in hell of comming out in America. 8-)

I'm definetly getting it. Some good news for those who posted though, the gameplay is similar to Disgaea, but not identical. I've heard it's not as complex as La Pucelle is actually older. Hopefully you don't need to jump into your weapons to get their maximum potential.

I don't preorder very often, but I did this time. Both the game and the guide a couple weeks back. I can't wait :)

GS gives you some mini guide/booklet. doesnt really guide you on much, its just character profiles

I'll be getting it but I'm not happy(to say the least) about the editing Mastiff is doing.

I'll be getting this too, along with change of pace title Samurai Warriors. If the strategy guide for La Pucelle vanishes as quickly as the Disgaea one did, I think I'll be glad that I picked it along with it.

You mean the dialogue translation - or something else? Please enlighten me so I can be bitter about my Japanese being teh suck.

Yeah...I'm disappointed about no preorder bonuses. I would have loved a poster or some random junk. I don't like American guides at all. They generally strip out all of the artwork and make themselves pretty worthless to own. I never understood the buying of a game guide*, first and foremost because, guides are evil, and secondly because you can get all the guidance you need from gamefaqs....

*exception being Japanese guides with tons of great artwork

StrychNiNE,
While it's not yet known the extent they went, according to an interview with Mastiff they have made some "minor graphical edits." According to various sources around the net, they are editing the game to remove crosses, which is quite silly given the religious overtones of the game. It makes me wonder how true to the storyline they will stick. In this day and age of graphic violence and adult content it is just insane to edit out crosses of all things. All we can do is hope that the changes made to the game are indeed minimal....

I for one can not wait. Disgaea was hella fun and funny. I dont really feel like i missed too much from not completeing it all. It has been the best strategy game ive ever played.

Have any links?

Kinda sounds like rumor bullshit to me. No offense, I'd just like to read it from a good source myself.

I L-O-V-E-D Disgaea!!!!! It was easily the best game I'd played since 1995! I reserved this one alrteady, but I didn't get the booklet. Anyway, Disgaea was a bit too deep, but I finished story mode twice so I could get the true ending and that's enough for me. I'd liked to have done all the extra quests, but I don't have the time to get my guys up to like level 600 or whatever.

I REALLY hope La pucelle isn't butchered. I don't think we need to worry about a poor translation, though. I've heard that mastiff was actually formed by a bunch of Ex-Konami translation employees. (As long as they're not the suikoden 2 guys, at least.)

I'm all over La Pucelle like a cheap suit. I just started Disgaea earlier this month, and it's the best/second best game I've played this year.

Here is the interview in question....

Quote in question...

Other than the obvious change in language, was the game altered in any way for the localization, and if so, what was the reason for this?

We did take out a very few things we felt would cause problems in North America. However, we’re talking about a few pretty trivial graphics changes, nothing that in any way affects the game.

As I said, no one knew the extent of the changes so, yes, the removal of crosses was speculation. Sorry if I wasn't clear. However, while looking for the interview I found the following which should clear up any and all speculation about the editing done to the game.

So, it's not as bad as I feared, but still silly and archaic. Why remove a cigarette? What is this, 1990? but oh well, I'll still be buying the game.

Those of you who picked it up - what do you think so far?

I'm about 3 hours into it & really like it.

So far, I think it's waaay too easy. The fact you can "recharge" before every battle is making it a breeze. But, I'm not too far into it - so I figure it'll get tougher the farther I get.

Here's something you'll enjoy:

I'm not too sure. On some aspects the game is much easier (you can move characters several times, even after you execute), and in some aspects its harder (I don't quite understand the levelling yet).

I also found it interesting that you can equip two weapons!

it will take some time for me to determine if I like it or not. Currently I'm overwhelmed with information, and not quite understanding the way everything works. But I was with Disgaea as well. I'm sure it will pass.

I'm picking up on the connections between the two games as well. IE Rosenqueen shop, Music, Menu systems...etc. etc. Its obvious that the game are related. It will be interesting to see how deep it goes.

As for humor? I haven't found it to be nearly as much so as Disgaea.
Also, I think they could have picked better voiice actors.

I've got la pucelle, and it's freakin' sweet! It's not quite as good as disgaea, though.
