Well, off the top of my head quickly, I'm going with Double dragon II, Star Parodious, and of course Dracula X.

I'm just getting into the Super CD side of things after finally getting a Duo to play them on...
I hear lots of good things about Y's I & II, it's next after Disgaea (and probably La Pucelle too...)
If Lords of Thunder is a better version of Gates of Thunder, it's definitly worth a shot. I suck at shooters so I can't get past level one of Gates.
Get the Bonk games at any cost, also the Bomberman games as well. If you have the ability to play PC Engine HuCards, Bomberman '94 as well. Panic Bomber, on SCD, is also an excellent puzzle game with a bomberman feel.

As I am not near my collection, I am not sure which games are Super CDs as opposed to to just plain CD games. However, off the top of my head Neo Nectaris is a great SCD strategy game that is the sequel to Nectaris/Military Madness. I also just won Super Darius II and Shubibinman III (Shockman III) on ebay. Those are supposed to be really good Super CDs as well.

Cool, I just bought Gain Ground SX. Like $32 out of Japan (after shipping, $30 is the Digital Press guide's price) complete with the spine card. Yippee! :D
Now to track down the Mega Drive and Genesis versions. Haven't emulated this game so I'm taking a bit of a chance on whether I'll like it or not, though :P

Ed, I found the PC-Engine version to be very slow and painful. The Japanese Mega Drive version is much better. I didn't know they made it for the Gensis as well.

Oh well, best to start off with low expectations. Like my Lode Runner on Mac running too fast...I'm sure I'll be astounded by the versions that actually run well. Heh.
Yep, the Genesis version is probably one of the less common titles out there. I've seen European MD versions as well.

Turbo Duo plays JP PC Engine CD/SCD without problem. IT's different story for Hu Card though as you will need the adapter. Not sure about how you can play JP titles on TG16 as Ihave no experience.
For CD/SCD my favourite are:
Kazekiri
Dracular-X
Spriggan or Spriggan mkII
Flash Hiders
Ys I&II
I don't play much Hu Card games but do have Devil's Crash when I saw it for $31. :p
For SuperGrafx only sixe titles were released and I believe only one was decent enough - forgot the name...
cheers

Well on the SGX you've got Ghouls 'n Ghosts (awesome, much better than the MD/Genny version all around), one of the 19xx games, and I forget what else.
Don't quote me on the existence of a Euro MD Gain Ground, folks...I swear I saw one but I could be wrong. None's on eBay at the moment, anyhow.
I like Shinobi and Space Harrier; Shinobi would be perfect if only they had more sprites (like the skeletal warriors) and the freakin' bonus level hadn't been cut. It's still pretty darn fun.

I don't have a TGCD or Duo yet (yet...)
But for the old TG16 you gotta go with Splatterhouse and Chew-Man-Fu.

I've recently gotten totally hooked on Panorama Cotton. I don't think I played more than ten minutes of the game "in the day", but I really dig it.
Did the Keio Flying Squadron games come as a spin-of of Cotton? Are there any other similarities in game designers, history, or otherwise that aren't as obvious as the two horizontally scrolling SHMUPS featuring a flying girl? They play very similarly, hard to believe it's a coincidence.

What's so surprising about it? It's got cute girls and lots of action. It's the inverse of Metal Slug and Cyber Lip (with both have a jetpack, making them like Contra with a jetpack! How crazy is that).
It's not a coincidence that there's a market for these games, but it's a coincidence that the designers both have tried to fill it.

Pretty much everybody's mentioned it, but I have to say that Ys book I and II is one of the best games I've played. Sure, plenty of things have been released that have brought the action/RPG genre light years ahead of this game, but bear in mind that the copyright date on it is 1987! This was the first game I played that was truly worthy of being on CD-ROM as well. If they had used this game to push the machine (and made more like it) it would have been much more successful. A must-play.
Military Madness (Nectaris) is also essential. It plays a lot like Sega's Dark Wizard for the Sega CD, but with military vehicles instead of mythical creatures.
If you're interested in the freakin' untrackable Wonder Boy series, check out Monster Lair (the first CD game released in the US, I think...not positive.) It's the missing link between the Wonderboy II and III that Sega published and Hudson's Adventure Island.
Dungeon Explorer is also essential. Yeah, the game is Gauntlet, essentially, but it's an adventure game. There is a big world to explore, and all the areas are interconnected. You can raise levels, as well. This was my favorite HuCard.
Valis III is cool, but, sadly, the Genesis version kind of kicks its tail. It shouldn't be that way, considering that Valis III is on CD, but it is.
Avoid JJ and Jeff at all costs unless you're into poo humor.

I've personally never liked Panorama Cotton. It's the worst Cotton game in my opinion, well other than that Dreamcast Cotton game.
I don't think the 2 game series are spin offs of each other. Cotton was made by Success and the 2 Keio games were made by Victor if I rememeber right. Also remember the second Keio game Keio Yugentai was mostly a 2d platformer and not a shooter. It did have 2 shooter levels thrown in there as well.
If you can find Dynastic Hero for a decent price for the US version it's worth getting. It's the same as Wonder Boy in Monder World. Not sure how much different it from the Genesis version other than the obvious difference with it being a cd title.
There's also Dungeon Explorer 2 and it's a cd game. I played a bit of it but never finished. You don't level up like in normal RPG instead you go up level after you beat a boss if I remember right. Plus there's also different characters you can play as and you switrch between them during the game.
I never found anything wrong with the Valis 3 minus the voices and I did play the Genesis version many years ago. It also does have an extra level or 2 that aren't in the Genesis version so it might be worth getting for that. I think getting the import versions of Valis 1 and 4 are the best of the series.
